Default Is this ever acceptable during a tape trade?

What would your reaction be if you received a tape in the mail, put it the VCR and it's BLANK? That's what happened to me and it's nothing that can be said to justify why that happened. I thought all traders checked the tape before packaging it. This has to be the stupidest thing that a trader can ever do. I told the guy that I'm truly pissed. He is sending me another tape but i just don't see how something lke this can happen. VERY DUMB

Well, I've been trading off and on for over 20 years. This has happened to me more than once - and I have to admit, I've done it at least once. You check your tapes, you put a sticky on each one so that they're properly labelled, you go to put them in the packages to mail them, and somehow they get mixed up. I once sent my own recording of a series I wanted for me all the way to the UK by mistake. Sigh. Stuff happens. If the person immediately works to make it right, then it's an honest accident and easily rectified and you move on. If you don't hear from them again, then it's worth being pissed off over.

Just my two cents (adjusted for inflation ...).

I guess it was very frustrating because it was something i really wanted and to put that tape in the VCR and see nothing but snow was very unexpected. I guess i can't see myself making a dumb mistake lke that because I always put the tape in the vcr and make sure I see what I just dubbed. Add this experience to the annoying things in the hobby of tape trading-lol

The same thing happened to me once, and I complained to the person, to whom, I bought the tape from, then I reported this individual through mail fraud. I highly recommend the next time to ask for referrences or basically ask around if this seller is honorable when it comes to buying copied VHS tapes from.

This happened to me with VCDs once also. When I got them they had nothing on them and had never been recorded on. The person even sent me one that they saved Science reports on. When I asked for my money back they gave me a story about being a poor single mom and if they gave me the money back I would be taking food from thier childs mouth!

Default make it right!

I made around ten videos for a trader, and a couple of them ended up blank. As soon as I found out what I'd done, I dropped everything and made the guy the tapes I owed him, sending them priority. With service like that, it was hard for him to complain.

People label tapes in advance and then forget that they didn't record on it. It happens.

Or, at least, human.

If the guy is willing to make amends and isn't actually ripping you off, what's to be gained except bad feelings by getting all upset?

Try Valium my %&*$, i was upset because ALL TRADERS ARE SIUPPOSED TO CHECK TAPES BEFORE PACKAGING!!!!!!!. Plus what he is sending me I have 5 other people waitng for the same thing and his little BOO BOO held me up. OK!!!!. So the frustration is Being HELD UP and stopping me from starting other trades.

Hey Lazygrae: Too funny!!

I understand the disappointment of receiving blank tapes - and agree, it shouldn't happen. But, if the trader ships out replacements immediately - there really is no harm done.

As far as having 5 other people waiting - they can continue to wait. Only a problem if they have already sent their side to you. For this reason, I never set up trades for anything I don't already have.

I told the five people that it's on the way so I had planned on starting new trades immediately. Some things i was hoping to get before Christmas but this little error has slowed things up. None of the other traders have mailed anything yet, they are just waiting to hear that I received the tApe.

Counting on receiving the tapes before Christmas - only to find you have received 2 blank tapes - would add to the frustration.

When I asked for my money back they gave me a story about being a poor single mom and if they gave me the money back I would be taking food from thier childs mouth!

I bet I could figure out who that is to.

I always check my tapes. If the tapes are in order I just label them tape 1 and tape 2 and etc. Sometimes I label them as season 1 part 1 in order, season 1 part 2 in order If they are not in order I label them by epsiode.

What about vcr compatabilty? From a well know trader I have gotten a show and two epsidoes on every tape had an annoying line on the bottom. And a different show all of them were like that no matter what vcr it was put in. I wonder if it was comptability or the quality even if they claimed to have taped it themself.

Onto something else. Did anyone record step by step on. ABC Family today. It was raining and I missed it when channel wouldn't come in. I can make a dvd out of all the christmas epsiodes of step by step if someone could provide me with that epsiode. And that would get the dvd to. And if anyone recorded two of a kind christmas epsiode that be great to. I'll probably post this as a new thread but thought I post here while I was at it.

Cool

You are way too quick to insult, people. Anybody can make a tapoe and check it, and then still pick the wrong one up. It happens. If the trader would have told you tought s***, then there would be a reason to be mad. You are way too hard on people.

LIke I said before, It's unacceptable. Nothing else to be said about it. That has to be one of the goofiest things a trader can ever do.
