You probably just pressed something by accident on your keyboard, maybe?

if you open up Notepad (on the Start>Accessories menu) or Wordpad does the same thing happen? Have you tried it in a different browser? does it only do this in text boxes, or does it happen if you type in the address bar as well? have you done a scan for spyware or viruses? how long ago did this start happening - could you try doing a system restore? |

go to the Start menu, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and open System Restore. There should be an option to "restore my computer to an earlier time" (I apologize if I'm a little off on some of this, I dont have an XP machine handy so I'm doing this from memory) select that and click Next, then it should give you a "calendar" with bold dates where your restore points are and descriptions on the right. Try click on one from about a week ago, Next and Next again to restart your computer and restore it back to a point before this happened. I honestly can't say that I know what is happening, but it SOUNDS like it is possibly a virus, which might make the System restore a non-option. Is your Antivirus up-to-date? could you try to run an online virus scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hous...start_corp.asp ? The next thing that I would suggest would be to run HijackThis and post a log to see what is running on the system. Whatever this problem may be, I would suggest that you take any steps necessary to back-up all of your data and prepare for a possible Windows reinstallation. |

Jenny, it would probably be a good idea to go to one of the computer labs on your campus and see if they can find someone who can look over your computer to see what is wrong. There would have to be people on your campus that know everything there is to know about a computer and can help you out.

Having a virus doesn't mean that you need to buy a new computer, but you MAY need to back up all of your files and reinstall Windows, but if you can find a friend or someone that knows what they are doing, as Mike suggested, they can probably fix it. the Links for HijackThis, and several free antivirus programs are in my signature, but here's HJT: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe once you've downloaded it open the file and run a scan, then create a log, post it here if you'd like or PM it to me. |
