Hey gang,
It’s us again. Yes, your friends from that earnest little show you used to watch for a brief period back around the turn of the century on NBC. I think it was called Geeks and Freaks. Was that it? Our memory is getting a little hazy. Maybe it was Nerds and Burnouts. Moderately Brisk Times at McKinley High? Welcome to the Dork House? Oh, yes. It was Freaks and Geeks. How could we forget?! (The preceding monologue is available for performance by your local theater company or church group. Please contact the Samuel French company for information.) No, it’s just us here to try and hawk some more stuff on you. We’re not proud of ourselves when we do this, mind you. It’s not like we wake up each morning saying, “Man, I can’t wait until we have a reason to send out emails to our fans asking them to fork over their hard earned dough for some more Freaks and Geeks stuff!” However, since we do have some new stuff that we’re pretty proud of and since there’s a holiday coming up that seems to include the purchases of gifts for loved ones and people you don’t necessarily want to buy presents for but are afraid that if you don’t they’ll do something bad to you (you know, like that surly mailman in your neighborhood who you’re sure will dump your letters into the sewer if you don’t pony up some kind of present for him around the holidays, or the psychotic paperboy who wouldn’t think twice about launching a Sunday Times through your front window just because you didn’t give him his McDonald’s gift certificates on December 24th), we figured we’d might as well tell you about the stuff we have for sale so that you’ll have a few more options for your gift-giving needs: There’s the brand new Freaks and Geeks: The Complete Scripts books from Newmarket Press, which are now in bookstores everywhere. Pretty much the size of small phonebooks, weighing in at over 600 pages each, but still under $20 each (well, a nickel under $20 at $19.95, but it still sounds better than saying they cost 20 bucks), Volume 1 contains the actual shooting scripts of Episodes 1-9 and Volume 2 contains Episodes 10-18 for the first time in print. These are not the lame transcripts that some script books give you, where they just lock some poor sucker in a room with tapes of the show and have him write down all the dialogue that you’ve already heard a million times. These are the actual scripts containing all the stuff we cut out or changed while we were filming, so it’s kind of fun to read through if you’re a fan of the show. On top of the scripts (well, not actually on top of the scripts but you know what we mean), each writer typed up an introduction to their episode, as well as introductions to the books by each of us. And both books also include scrapbook pages filled with the last of our Freaks and Geeks archives: never-before-seen photos, handwritten notes, the series bible, a drawing of the geeks by John Daley’s father (!), character breakdowns, studio memos, discarded show ideas, answers to writers’ questionnaires, a call sheet, and anything else we could find and have Andrew Cohen paste onto a page. And now, here’s the official “buy it online” info the company wants us to put on here: The books are available now in bookstores or online booksellers, including amazon.com (Vol. 1 and Vol. 2) and barnesandnoble.com (Vol. 1 and Vol. 2). Also, there’s still the 8-disc special edition DVD (available for $120 on freaksandgeeks.com or shoutfactory.com), which Entertainment Weekly recently said “may amount to the finest DVD treatment of the year,” or the 6-disc retail edition DVD (available on amazon.com), and the Freaks and Geeks Soundtrack & Score (available for $18.98 on shoutfactory.com) floating around, in case you really want to bury some friend or loved one under a mountain of fake high school memories. Once again, we just want to let you know that we get zero percent of the profits. We want you to get this stuff not for our pocketbooks but just for our egos. Anyway, have a great holiday, regardless of whether or not you buy any of the aforementioned stuff, and we both encourage you to … JINGLE BELL ROCK ON! (All right, that was a little lame, we admit it. But, what the heck? Our hearts are in the right place. Directly inside our rib cages.) All the best and peace on earth, Paul & Judd P.S. Judd wants you to know that Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is on sale at amazon.com now and hits stores December 28. Also, expect Undeclared on DVD next year! P.P.S. And Paul wants to remind you all that his movie, I Am David, which he wrote and directed, is opening this weekend, December 3rd, in various cities around the country. Go to www.iamdavidtix.com to see if it's playing in a theater near you. And it's a film for the whole family, so bring the kids (well, maybe not the ones under 8 -- there's a couple of sorta scary scenes for little ones). Go to www.iamdavidmovie.com to see what it's all about. Thanks! |

Man, if I didn't have so much other stuff to watch...I'd love to get back into the dvd set again, such a great show. I wish they provided some Undeclared dvd updates, but it's good to see the scriptbooks are out. I didn't know they were available already.
