My Review of MITM

Guys,

I just started watching this show in syndication and I enjoy it for its uniquness. The camera shots look like they came from a "home movie" perspective, so you feel as if you are a part of this strange and disfunctional family. I think that the show does make an honest effort to show that the world of the teenager is full of confusion and turmoil. MITM, acts and reacts to characters in a bizzare, but yet likeable way.

The difference in this show is the rapid pace in scenes, and the beauty of it is that you never really know what a charactor will say or do next. It seems to be a little bit of The Wonder Years, The Simpsons, and Family Guy, with a bizzare twist to it.

I think Frankie Muniz is a talented young actor with great potential and a sincere approach to people. Malcolm really tries to explain to the audience the confusion that is going on around him in a very oblivious world. Malcolm tries to make order out of confusion as best he can. Some of the scenes and dialogue really do hit home for some people with the premise "Life is Unfair."

I think that the problems that many do have with the show is that with the exception of Malcolm, their really isn't any sort of love or compassion among the charactors. Sure, Married With Children thrived on parental/offspring disdain for each other, but that show was SUPPOSED to work off of that premsie. There really isn't anything about Lois, Hal, or the siblings, that makes us WANT to know more about them (or even care about them.) Does Lois have ANY sensitivity at all for her family? I don't see it. Hal is very one-dimensional and aloof to life and its problems. Poor Lois can't do anything other than nag at the kids, scream, and have some sort of breakdown. It's a disturbing pattern. I feel like saying, "Hey Malcolm you're cool! Come stay at my house, but PLEASE LEAVE YOUR FAMILY AT HOME!!!"

I also like Dewey! He's different and can be mean-spirited (well...they all can be) But Dewey makes up for it with his creativity and street-smarts. But, I think that Lois and Hal bring the show down and prevent MITM, from becoming what it could really be.
