I really liked Jane Hathaway. Nancy Kulp was just really good at her role, and she deserves more credit for it.

How could anyone not love Jethro?
Especially in the early years of the show when he was so sweet, innocent and good hearted. "Ellie Mae, you look real purty when you put on that dress."
They ruined him a bit after he graduated 6th grade and he thought he was a genius, but still, most of the really, really funny situations or lines on the show centered on him.
And goodgosh, he was handsome. He could have been a movie star. If God himself came down to earth and told me that he was going to let me make a man and that I could make him look anyway I wanted...Well, he'd probably wind up baring an amazing resemblence to Max Baer.,Jr.
And there's something I noticed about him, when he'd be standing in the background and didn't have any lines. You could see he had the most alert, sharp look in his eyes. This tells me that while he might have played a fool(and played him wonderfully) you could tell the actor had a brain. Only a smart man can play someone that dumb so perfectly and over the top.
So in conclusion, I'd have to say that Jethro Bodine is my favorite character.

Boy,oh boy,what a lovely girl Elly was!(Sigh)
She was a sweetheart, sensitive with her love of animals and had such a cheery disposition as well as an idealistic nature. No cosmetics or dresses for her.She was free as a bird and beautiful in her shirt and jeans-with that belt-rope.
Elly certainly did look beautiful in gowns and swimsuits, however. Her beauty truly shined when she was in a gown. She might have thought her first ball-gown was for playing ball in,but she soon learned otherwise.
Her initial sensual awakening came after the first kiss she recieved from Dash Riprock in season 3.She realized that her pa was right about fellas being more fun than critters.
At certain scenes were she would be in a swimsuit-and we could see her perfectly formed legs as well as her figure-she was an absolutely divine beauty.Lovely Donna Douglas was a Dream-Woman.

Jethro Bodine-Because he had a 6th grade education! Jethro showed his intelligence at the Potts School. I guess the uniform Granny made him was a wee bit small for his size.

1.Granny (she was such a cool old lady!)
2.Jane Hathaway (athough w/ her Vassar education, she could have been so much more than a secretary!
3. Mrs. Drysdale( A hillarious snob! I love that first family org and how she was so proud of her old money!)

Granny was my favorite character, she was just so funny & I liked the way she was always having arguments & competitions with Mrs. Drysdale and how mad she'd get at Jethro for eating all the vittles.

Far and away, Elly May is #1 to me. Have always loved Donna Douglas and this character: beautiful, innocent, sexy, sweet, funny, kind, it's no surprise to read that she received the most fan mail of the cast.

My favorite was Cousin Pearl! Her spats with Granny, the yodeling, her dream of singing at The Hollywood Bowl, wanting to be "High Society", all just priceless. I would have rather she stayed on as Pearl on BH, into the second season, rather than going on to play Kate Bradley on Petticoat Junction.
