"Karen and Jackie" is about a set of best friends (of 30 years): Karen Daniels (Cindy Williams) and Jackie Roberts (Penny Marshall). Karen, 53, and Jackie, 53, both live in an apartment in Milwaukee after they both become widows. (They live in a modern version of thier apartment in "Laverne and Shirley"). Jackie lost her firefighter husband, Greg, in a blazing inferno. Karen lost her husband, Dennis, in an automobile accident. Karen and Jackie both work at the same small diner in Milwaukee as waitresses. Jackie and the late Greg have only one daughter, Christine (Leah Remini), 31. Jackie was 3 months pregnant with Christine when she married Greg. Christine is a recently divorced mother of twin boys: Chad and Luke, both 4 years old. Karen and the late Dennis have two children: Heather (Candace Cameron-Bure), 27, and David (Brian Austin Green), 25. Heather is not married or dating anyone, she is more focused on her career in the fashion industry. David has a steady girlfriend, Rachel (Maggie Lawson). David and Rachel have a 3 year old daughter, Emily. Jackie and Karen were the maids of honor for each other's wedding. Jackie and Karen's co-workers and friends at work include: the four time divorcee-Lori (Marlo Thomas) and the happily married with grown kids-Pam (Debra Jo Rupp).
