Some of my favourite episodes were the ones where we actually see what Fred dreams about. Some of these dreams last through half the episode. He's had some pretty interesting dreams too.Pebbles as an adult marrying an adult version of Arnold the paper boy,Barney,Wilma and Dino as elderly characters,Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm winning instant fame by singing"Let The Sunshine In"etc...Here are the episodes where Fred had a dream.GROOM GLOOM:NO BIZ LIKE SHOW BIZ:RIP VAN FLINTSTONE:SHINROCK-A-GO-GO:HOW TO PICK A FIGHT WITH YOUR WIFE WITHOUT REALLY TRYING:In the latter,as you probably remember,we also saw Wilma's dream, where she had appeared to have been abducted by an Arabian prince, and was calling for Fred. But we never saw what Barney or Betty ever dreamed about.

Here's those that I recall:
GROOM GLOOM (September 26,'63) W:Herb Finn)Fred's dream about a teenage-early 20s Pebbles (voiced, nmot surpringly, by Janet "Judy Jetson" Waldo), eloping with Arnold (this and hiis regular kid mode, by Hanna Barbera voiceover workhorse Don "Ranger Smith" Messick) Has a flying elephant (who is NOT DUMBO-STONE!) NO BIZ LIKE SHOW BIZ (September '65)(W:Joanna Lee) Entire toon is about Pebbly-Poo & Bamm Bamm's career as singers, managed by Brian Epstein take-off Eppy Brianstone-get it-voiced by vteran British character actor Bernard )TITANTIC,1997) Fox. At film's end when Fred and Barney are "kidnapping" the tots and Fred is now running away fgrom the cops due to th e trouble this has caused he wakes up!HOW TO PICK A FIGHT WITH YOUR WIFE WITHOUT REALLY TRYING (1966) While Fred's sleeping at his OWN home and Wilma's at the RUBBLES's house due to a marital spat, with the kids at Betty' and Barney's, Freed and Wilma have their own respective nightmares about needing each othger. This reconicles them. RIP VAN FLINSTONE (1967)(w:Tony Benedict) Fred's dream that he's Rip Van Winkle (the now grown up Pebbles (Jean Vanderpyl as when she was a baby) and Bamm Bamm (Allan Melvin here, rather thasn Don Messick who voiced Bamm Bamm regularly), aren't told who Fred is, don't recognize our hero BUT they TURN around call him Mrs.GUMP..maybe in an edited out piecve when senior citizen Barney tells them who he is..I'm watching GILLIGAN which has had little parts nciked out thus causing confusion!). SHINROCK A GO GO ('65) Fred dreams he's teaching his new "dance" (he'd hit his foot..) to worldwide. |

How about the one where Fred grows a mustache, and Wilma gets worried that other women are falling for him. She sees Fred running to a bus with three ladies behind him and she thinks they're infatuated with her husband. Then she has this dream with those same ladies in it, and they're in Italy, if I remember right. She even gets the idea that Fred is running off with Slate's wife, but of course things turn out all right in the end. Wilma was ordinarily level-headed in the extreme, but here they made her into Lucy Ricardo!!

"The Flintstones," like "Gilligan's Island," had great dream sequences.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- FROM A CURRENT MIDAS TV AD: Counterman (to Fred/Barney): "Is something burning?" Barney: "Oh those are Fred's old brakes (laughs)." Fred: "Ver-ry funny." |
