"Mrs. Clampett's" name was Rose Ellen....
she and Granny trained Jed's old horse to stop under a tree to get him to propose to her....this, according to Granny, took them six months.... |

Finaly, someone entered who knows.Thank you for answering.Perhaps Rose Ellen was 15 or so when she married Jed,but apparently she wasn't as strong as her mother was-or her grandmother!Rose Ellen probably died shortly after Elly May was born-and I recall Jed once told his daughter,"Yer the livin' pitcher a' yer Maw."If that is the case,Rose Ellen must've been lovely.

How well I remember the two or three times in the series' first year when Elly May's mother was actualy named. If I recall, the first time was when Jed was criticizing Granny for her helping Elly,"trap,"Sonny Drysdale into marriage.
JED:Nobody has to get trapped into marriage. GRANNY:Every man that got married was got into it that way. JED:Not me.I remember Rose Ellen and I were out drivin' in a buggy, the horse stopped under a shady elm tree,an' I proposed to her on the spur o' the moment. GRANNY:That,"spur o' the moment,"o' yourn took us six months plannin'.We even trained that horse ta stop under the shady elm. ------------------ Richard Ranke |
