Default Another trip down memory lane -- "On Our Own"

I remember another show I liked but that only lasted a season. "On Our Own" starred Bess Armstrong and Lettie Greene as two roommates trying to make it in New York. Holland Taylor played Bess' boss, who if I remember correctly worked at an advertising agency. The show aired on Sunday nites from 8:30 to 9 pm, right after "All in The Family" during the 1977-78 season. Critics loved it; audiences were lukewarm and the series was canceled.

I don't remember many of the details...but I do remember the theme song was catchy.

The episode I remember most fondly is one where the girls end up fighting at a donut shop and end up spraying each other with jelly.

Bess Armstrong went on to star in a few other series. Lettie Greene gained fame as playing the young Dorothy in flashback episodes of "The Golden Girls."

All I recall is that it was the only show of that season to be shot in New York. One of the last shows produced by the great Talent Associates.

Default On Our Own

I saw one of the episodes of that show taped in New York City. Bess Armstrong was very nice, and was the only one who came out after the taping to give autographs. Lynnie Greene and
Dixie Carter were no where to be found.

I remember that show on Sunday nights. The original post gave the incorrect name of the actress who played the boss. It was not Holland Taylor, who played Ruth the head of the ad agency on Boaom Buddies. It was Gretchen Wyler, who portrayed Toni McBain. In the mid 60s, Wyler hosted a syndicated dance instruction show titled Step This Way.

In addition to Dixie Carter, there was Dan Resin as Craig Boatwright and John Christopher Jones as Eddie Barnes.

actually, audiences WEREN'T lukewarm to this show at all-it was the third highest rated new show of the 77-78 season, coming in 29th for the year and losing less than one ratings point from it's very popular lead-in, "Rhoda," which begs the question: why WASN'T it renewed for a second season? does anybody out there even have any episodes?

a very strange thing, the way this show consistently placed high in the ratings and then seemed to vanish into thin air immediately after...
