Default Echocardiogram?

Sorry I know that I spelled it wrong. Anyway on Dec 6, I have to go and get one. I'm really scared they are going to find something wrong with my heart. I went to the doctor on Tuesday and when she took my pulse it was racing. They did an EKG and she said that was normal, and that it might be my blood pressure medication so she switched it. For the past month or so I've had chest pains on and off. Has anybody had one of these tests before?

I had one done last summer. What pissed me off was my stupid sucky insurance didn't cover it and I get a bill from my doctor for $964.

Anyhoo, despite all that, it is really good to get it done. You may be scared but at least you can find out what's wrong with your heart and get it treated if there is something wrong.

I started going to a cardiologist because my heart would stop beating for a few seconds, then start beating again.
Never had any chest pains though. Some days were worse than others, and my heart would be 'flip-flopping' so much that I thought I would have a heart attack. Then I would go a while with nothing. So I finally decided to get it checked. I had all the other tests done, my EKG came out normal and all, and they also had me wear a halter monitor for 24 hours to see what my heart did in a 24 hour period.

You do know what all is entailed with an echo, do you? If not, I could tell you. The nurse I had was really nice. We had the same taste in music so we talked about that through the whole procedure, so that put me at ease.

Well, the doctor told me they found nothing and this thing with my heart stopping beating happens with alot of people. So he just suggested taking magnesium. It's supposed to stabilize alot of things in your body including your heart.

Hope this helps!! Good luck.

Thank you! It made me feel a lot better. This week was hard for me because my parents are out of state for the holidays, and so when I had to go through the EKG and all that, I was scared that they would put me in the hospital, and that my parents wouldn't be there. I guess I shouldn't worry too much. The doctor said it could be the medicine that caused the racing pulse. I have an aunt that said when she was on a blood pressure medication that it gave her some chest pains too. Also I figure that the if the doctor was that worried about it, she would have had me hospitilized that day or something. What all is involved in an echo?

This test is a cinch. Really. I wouldn't tell you it's very easy if it wasn't totally true. It is completely painless. And it doesn't matter how nervous you are (hopefully since you now know it is easy, you will feel okay about it though) because the test turns out fine no matter what.

A tech. uses an instrument to move around on your skin, and it takes images of your heart on a video screen--like an ultrasound. In fact it is considered an "ultrasound" for your heart.

What's age have to do with it? I imagine she is just fine as well, but heart problems can occur at any age. Even babies can be born with heart problems.

I had a heart murmur when I was very little. But it pretty much sealed itself up.

It's true, I am only 19. But I will be honest and say that I need to lose a lot of weight. I weigh a lot less than 300 but a little more than 200. Believe me, I'm working on it and I know that I need to lose weight. I also know that it could take me a few years to do so.

My husband has had a few echo tests, and it's a very simple procedure. I think you're more fearful of the results though. It's natural to feel that way. Given your age, take comfort that you've got the law of averages on your side.

Please keep up posted, and try not to worry. Stress is not good for the heart.

Prayers for your heart.
