Like anyone who reads these boards, I have my own opinions about various topics related to sitcoms, but, instead of spreading them out over multiple posts, I figure I'll put some of these opinions on one posting, to save time and space. To make them easier to read, I have made a few lists which I'd like to share with you now:

1. MOST UNDERRATED SITCOMS BY DECADE

1950s: The Phil Silvers Show/Sgt. Bilko

1960s: Car 54, Where Are You?; The Beverly Hillbillies; My Three Sons

1970s: Soap

1980s: Bosom Buddies; Square Pegs

1990s: Sabrina The Teenage Witch; Ned and Stacey

2000s: Scrubs

2. MOST OVERRATED SITCOMS BY DECADE

1950s/60s: None. As far as I'm concerned, they were all great---even the bad ones!

1970s: MASH

1980s: Archie Bunker's Place; Full House (naturally!)

1990s: Seinfeld (The all time champion!)

2000s: Arrested Development

3. BAD FIRST SEASON/GOOD SECOND SEASON

I Dream Of Jeannie
The Odd Couple
Cheers
Family Ties
Night Court
Everybody Loves Raymond

4. GOOD FIRST SEASON/BAD SECOND SEASON

The Monkees
Welcome Back, Kotter (after John Travolta left for good)
Mork & Mindy (too many changes)
A Different World (no more Lisa Bonet and Marisa Tomei)
8 Simple Rules (for obvious reasons)

5. BEST NEW SITCOMS THAT DEBUTED IN THE LAST DECADE

1993-94 Frasier
1994-95 Friends
1995-96 Caroline In The City
1996-97 3rd Rock From The Sun
1997-98 Dharma & Greg
1998-99 Will & Grace
1999-00 The Sopranos (not a great year for new sitcoms)
2000-01 Malcolm In The Midddle
2001-02 Scrubs
2002-03 8 Simple Rules
2003-04 Hope & Faith (a lot funnier than Arrested Development!)
2004-05 Joey

6. WORST THEME SONGS

1. The Patty Duke Show (no contest!)
2. Joey
3. The Drew Carey Show (Cleveland Rocks? Puh-leeze!)
4. Malcolm In The Middle
5. Scrubs
6. Charles In Charge
7. Mr. Belvedere

7. BEST SPINOFFS

1. Happy Days
2. Laverne & Shirley
3. The Andy Griffith Show
4. Frasier
5. Mork & Mindy
6. Gomer Pyle

I'm surprised you like Hope & Faith a lot more than Arrested Development.

And I actually like Joey's theme song. I don't really get why everyone hates it. Maybe because I love the Long Beach Dub Allstars and I've heard the full song. It's a good fit for the show, I think.

I disagree. "The Beverly Hillbillies" is often recognized as a true classic in the same league of shows like "The Andy Griffith Show", "Leave It To Beaver", "I Love Lucy", etc. However, shows like "My Three Sons" are not.

Again ... I disagree. I find "The Andy Griffith Show" and "The Honeymooners" to be very overrated.

I disagree. I find the MITM theme song to be an outstanding representation of the show itself. I would recognize it in same league of such theme songs of "Green Acres", "The Beverly Hillbillies", "Gilligan's Island", "Mary Tyler Moore", etc.

I don't consider "Happy Days" to be a spin-off despite that its pilot episode was a "Love, American, Style" episode.

The Sopranos is not a sitcom. It's got its comedic moments, but it's no sitcom.

When you say bad do you mean rating or quiality?
Because Cheers won best comedy Emmy its first season even though it was last in the ratings.

All I said was how surprised I was that he liked Hope & Faith better than Arrested Development. Not a criticism. I was just correcting him on The Sopranos thing.

Well of course disagreeing is fine, but saying that a person has lost all credibility because they like one show over another is something different.

Well if a person loses credibility in your book because of their preference in television sitcoms, then you have a pretty screwed up book. Definitely one that I don't plan on reading...

And for the record, I can think of about one hundred shows I prefer over Arrested Development, and if that makes me lose credibility in your book, fine, I don't care.

I have watched "Hope & Faith" since this season started. I watch every show on TGIF. I laugh at "8 Simple Rules" and "Less Than Perfect". "Complete Savages" is getting better. But "Hope & Faith" is the worst show, not only of the night, but of all current sitcoms. And that's saying something. This is of course my opinion. But I haven't laughed once at that show. "Arrested Development" is funny. Sure it's not for everyone. But it's for me.

I also disagree with many of the shows on this list.

Not all of my picks were long lasting or popular. But they all made me laugh. And that's the important thing.
