Puppy love: Woman Breastfeeds Dog
Wednesday, November 17, 2004 Posted: 2140 GMT (0540 HKT)

WELLINGTON (Reuters) - A woman in New Zealand says she is breastfeeding her pet puppy because she wants it to protect her baby daughter as they both grow up.

Kura Tumanako told the NZPA news agency Wednesday that she had started breastfeeding the Staffordshire bull terrier pup after her baby stopped taking her milk.

"I didn't want to waste it so I gave it to Honey Boy," she said.

According to NZPA, Tumanako said she had fed the dog twice a day for the past week but would probably wean it off in about six weeks' time. Her baby, now 2 months old, is on bottled milk.

"I wanted to raise it (the pup) with my baby," she said. "I wanted to bring it up with a baby. It will protect her as they grow up," said Tumanako, who lives in Hastings in New Zealand's North Island.

"He drinks more than the baby. It doesn't hurt, but it's a little bit ticklish."

well, I dont know that it is illegal or immoral, but it is certainly strange.

I've seen a video of a bird being breasfed by a dog, so I mean, it cant be that unnatural of a thing, still, very very strange.

oh...and you know, Animal Planet has some really low quality tv shows..

Will someone please explain to me why this is so immoral?
Is it because of the preconceived notion that a breast should be used for anything OTHER than milk, when, in fact, that's just what it's for?
So, she's nurturing a baby of another species.
It's not sexual.
How is it different from giving a dog food off the table? That's supposedly "just for human consumption" too.

If you think it's gross, ok...but I just can't see where the "immoral" thing is coming from.

I don't understand why it's immoral either. Why somebody would actually think it's sexual is beyond me.

what could possibly be construed as immoral at it? If you actually were to care about morality in the biblical sense, not that I do, though beastiality is a sin, breast feeding is not considering a sexual act, because if it were, breastfeeding a baby would not only be incest, it would also be adultery.

As such, though it is strange, and the woman may be pyschologically unhealthy, in the nature sense, it is natural for mammals to try to nourish other mammals, it is just that humans have the reasoning skills to decide it is abnormal to breastfeed another species.

I challenge you to name a single article of morality that would state that it is immoral to breasftfeed a dog.

That is just my opinion; I think it is just unnatural for a human being to allow a dog to nurse from her breast, there is other options to feeding a puppy.

True, there are other options. But it doesn't make it immoral. She certainly isn't harming anybody. I think people are using the term "immoral" far too loosely.

Okay, maybe I did use the word "immoral" loosely, and I do apologize, but I just think it is unnatural for a human being to do something like this...

Also, it should be mentioned that dogs are pack animals, and are more likely to have a far closer kinship with animals they are actually related to, as such, she wanted the dog to protect her child, and decided that if the dog was breastfed by her, the dog and child would have a closer kinship.
