I just read that convicted killer Dennis Keith Smith is dead. He hanged himself in his prison cell. Smith went on the run after the 1995 disappearance of Carol Killaby. UM profiled him during the 1996-97, and was caught soon afterwards. He was tried and convicted of murdering Killaby, even though her body has never been found. He had previously served time for the 1982 murder of his sister. Good riddance to this arrogant lowlife! |

I remember that case from the show- and, as cold as this sounds, I can't say I have a whole lot of sympathy for his mother. I mean, this thug was convicted of killing her own daughter yet she (and her husband, who I guess is now deceased) forced her own young grandson (the murdered woman's son) to grow up under the same roof as his mother's murderer after Dennis Smith got paroled for it! If that woman had had anydecency, she'd have disowned him after he'd murdered his sister (her daughter) and told him to rot on the street rather than subject her young grandson to his presence!

I am glad this scumbag killed himself. He never should have been released the first time. Serving ten years in jail for murder and letting him back into the world nice going. Now he won't be able to bother anyone anymore. God bless the Killabee Family

this case was on last week, its nice to see the scumbag is dead, that was a pretty cold blooded story
Lifetime didn't show any update about him hanging himself, but they never updates anymore so its no surprise |

The irony is if DKS would have remained in prison, Carolyn Killaby would still be here today, probably. How sad. |

I was just thinking of this story as I do from time to time. The murdered woman's son's story was so affecting. I hope he finds some peace.

I don't understand a justice system that allows a killer to go free at all, much less after 10 YEARS? I really would like to know what happened at that trial, or if he pleaded. Either way, a woman would be alive today if he'd stayed incarcerated. It makes me sick when I hear these stories, there was another profiled by UM, a man who killed his wife who I remember got out and I think killed or tried to kill his second wife. Amazing.
