Just before Thanksgiving,an elderly man in Phoenix calls his son in New
York, and says,
"Son,I'm sorry to ruin your day,but I have to tell you that your mother
and
I are divorcing....
forty-five years of misery are enough."
"Pop,what are you saying,"screams the son in dismay.
"We can't stand the sight of each other any more,"says the old man.
"We're sick of each other,and I'm sick of talking about all this,so you
call
your sister in Chicago
and tell her." And he hangs up.
Frantic,the son calls his sister,who explodes over the phone.
"Like hell they're getting divorced,"she shouts."I'll take care of
this!"
She immediately calls Phoenix,and screams at her father,"You are NOT
getting
divorced!
Don't do anything until I get there. I'm calling my brother back and
we'll
both be there tomorrow.
Until then,don't do a single thing,DO YOU HEAR ME !?" And she slams
down the
phone.
The old man hangs up,turns to his wife and smiles.
"Okay,they'll be here for Thanksgiving, and they're paying their own
way!"
