I am one of the biggest fans of the books by Helen Fielding - being a fellow Pride & Prejudice fan who was completely in love with Colin Firth - absolutely had to love the first film. It was faithful, and definatley captured the spirit of the book.
The second book was good, but not as good as the first. In the way that Bridget Jones's Diary was Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, The Edge of Reason did have a retelling of Jane Austen's Persuasion. And that was completely lost in the movie. I was really disappointed with the new movie. All the cast was there, and they were all energized. The music was fabulous and the director was loving every second. But the script was terrible. None of the jokes were anywhere near as funny as in the first film, and all of my favorite scenes from the book were cut and replaced with stupid ones. There's a scene where Bridget and Mark go skiing. She apparently has lied and told him she's a great skier. OH COME ON! Like that's never been done before? I can remember scenes like that from movies in the thirties - even Garfield and Three's Company had an episode on that one. Cheap laughs. It was just all around disappointing. Those who didn't read the book may like it - but I just can't get over how much better the film could have been. |

Even if the 2nd movie wasn't as good as the 1st, hey, it's got Colin Firth in it!! That's good enough for me!!
