"Night Court" on DVD - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

What did I tell you guys? Good things come to those who wait. As far as them just releasing season one, consider it a test run. Warner Brothers probably want to see how well the first season sells. My prediction...I think it will sell very well. If they promote it enough, you'll see all nine seasons released in no time.

As for my feelings on the release, to quote Harry T. Stone, "Well feather my feet and start my grinnin,"

Hate to say it bro/sis, I think we'll be lucky if season 2 even makes it. The show is pretty much a "cult status" thing, even as big as it was back then, I think has drifted from everyone's minds. Low tv replay is too blame. If they ran it as often as friggin Cosby or Roseanne ppl would buy it, and new audiences would get introduced to it. But for Warner to digitize all 192 eps....I dunno know.

I think the problem with just releasing season one is that not too many people liked season one. "Night Court" didn't officially start picking up steam until Markie Post and Charles Robinson joined tha cast. This may be the only that will hurt the DVD release of season one. Had NBC packaged at least three seasons ( I think Markie and Charles joined in season three.), then it may have been safer. I agree with you that air time plays a part in popularity but so does promotion. If you don't promote it, then no one will know it's out there. As for "Night Court" being a cult favorite, you're right there too. That actually may be what helps it. This and that fact that you can't watch it anywhere but DVD. Think about it for a second. Why would you buy a DVD of a show that you watch in reruns everyday when you can buy a DVD of a show that you can't see anymore. Most of the shows that they are selling that are already playing in reruns are coming in packed deals with attractive extras. People who purchase these DVDs are either die-hard fans of the show or they just want the DVD for the extras. For me, I'm a die-hard "Night Court" fan and would like to the episodes as they aired (unedited). I was too young when the show came out so for me it would be a treat to see them how they were.

With all that being said, we are the ones who are going to make up Warner Bros. minds about future releases. So get out there and buy it!

I HATE season 1, nothing compared to the Mac/Christine years, when it was one of the best raunchy shows on. Cheers, Cosby (gag) and Family Ties were clean, but NC was great on Thursday for low-down dirty humor on NBC. If I had money to burn, I'd buy season 1 to get seasons 2-9 released, but I settle for my A&E taped collection of 100 eps.

You mentioned over-play making people skip it, like if Cosby or Roseanne came out. It's true, look at the Seinfeld DVDs, you know a million die-hards have VHS collections from tv. So they load it with 3 hours of extras and bloopers and etc.

Be good to see up to date interviews with the NC cast. Recently saw Charlie Robinson in a cell phone commercial where he almost runs over a guy trying to use his night time minutes, haha.

Well I just bought the Night Court Dvd and I have never seen this show look so good.They sure did a good job with the transfer.I hope they will release the other season sets.

Okay, I just watched both DVD discs this weekend. It was so great to see the shows as they aired. As I've said, I was young when the show first came on so this was great to see. I still laughed. The features were really interesting. Listening to Reinhold Weege and Harry Anderson give insights into the show was really intriguing. I especially enjoyed Weege's commentary for the pilot. It was great. I'm already keeping my fingers crossed for all the episodes to be released.

I watched the first 2 episodes last night. I'd completely forgotten that a (very) young and (very) unknown Michael J. Fox had made an appearance.

But, just as I did when the shows were first on, I laughed myself silly.

They just don't make them like this any more. Funny without being gratuitous. It's a nice combination.
