Default Rapper O.D.B. Dead

Rapper O.D.B. Collapses, Dies in Studio

NEW YORK - The rap artist O.D.B., who lived a life as wild as his lyrics, collapsed and died inside a recording studio Saturday, his record label said. He was 35.

O.D.B. had complained of chest pains before collapsing at the Manhattan studio, according to a statement from Roc-a-Fella records.

O.D.B., also known as Ol' Dirty Bastard, Dirt McGirt or his legal name of Russell Jones, was a founding member of the hit rap group the Wu-Tang Clan in the early 1990s. With his offbeat, unorthodox delivery, he segued into a successful solo career and released several hit singles.

But he was frequently in trouble with the law, mostly for drug possession.

In February 1998, he crashed the stage at the Grammy Awards and hijacked a microphone from singer Shawn Colvin (news) as she accepted an award, apparently upset over losing the best rap album Grammy to Puff Daddy (news - web sites). He complained that he spent a lot of money for new clothes because he thought he was going to win. The rapper later apologized. Later in 1998, he was wounded in a shooting during a robbery in his apartment.

In 2001 he was sentenced to two to four years in prison for drug possession; plus two concurrent years for escaping from a rehab clinic. He was released in 2003 and immediately signed with Roc-a-Fella.

O.D.B. would have turned 36 on Monday.

Drugs were his condition. Years of drug abuse takes a toll on the body.

I just heard the news today. This is a shock & i know his Wu Tang Clan brothers are hurt. I wonder what was taking Rocafella records so long to release a album by him. He had been signed with the label since last year i believe & i read today that it took him a year to almost complete a new album. I stopped listening to him after his first solo cd cause his 2nd cd Niqqa Please sucked to me. He had a 3rd cd called The Trials & Tribulations Of Russell Jones but the cd came out 2 yrs ago when he was locked up so he had no say about what songs he wanted on the cd.

First there was 2Pac, then it was Biggie Smalls and then Jam Master "J" and then Ol' Dirty B******. Very sad. I might as well go back and play "M-E-T-H-O-D Man". RIP to a great rapper.

Full House there are other rappers who have died that aren't as popular as those rappers you mentioned. Here's a list of some other rappers who are dead.

1. DJ Scott La Rock(former member of Boogie Down Productions with KRS One. He died a little bit after BDP's Criminal Minded cd came out in 87. Somebody killed him cause he was trying to break up a argument.)
2. Freaky Tah of Lost Boys(he died in 98. Somebody killed him when he was leaving a party.)
3. Big L(he was murdered in 99 cause the person who killed him was after his brother cause his brother had owed this person some money.)
4. Darren Robinson of Fat Boys died of a heart attack in 95
5. Big Pun died of a heart attack in 2000
6. Eazy E died in 95 of aids
