David Duchovny stars as Jimmy Burke, a factory worker at a plastics factory, who lives in his Florida home with his sexy wife, Cheyenne Burke (Tea Leoni) and his three children. Jimmy and Cheyenne are married 16 years ago (when she was 4 months pregnant). Jimmy and Cheyenne's three children are: Morgan Burke (Alexa Vega), 16, Justin Burke (Jacob Smith), 14, and Tracie Burke (Dakota Fanning), 10. Cheyenne's younger and single sister/best friend, Elise Spencer (Jennifer Aspen) often drops by the Burke home. Cheyenne and Elise run a small coffee shop in town. Jimmy's bachelor best friend/co-worker, Scott Hamilton (Scott Baio) often drops by the Burke home as well. Scott and Jimmy were best friends all their high school and ever since then. Jimmy and Elise buttheads, like most brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law do.

Ep1: Pilot Episode:
Jimmy takes the first day of school off, in order to see the unhappy faces on his children's faces as they leave for school. Cheyenne learns Elise's current boyfriend is cheating on her.

Ep2: Falling Deep With Depp:
Elise invites Cheyenne, Morgan, and Tracie over for a Johnny Depp movie marathon at her apartment, as Jimmy hosts poker night at the house with Scott and the guys.

Ep3: Smoking Is No Good:
Jimmy catchs Justin smoking a cigarette with his friends after school. Jimmy secretly punishes Justin yet hides it from Cheyenne-until Cheyenne finds a pack of cigarettes in Justin's jeans. Morgan makes the pom-pom squad at school-just like her mom and aunt. Morgan soon regrets it, when Elise decides to go over the routines with Morgan.

Ep4: Scott's New Girlfriend:
Scott and his new girlfriend have dinner with Jimmy and Cheyenne at Scott's apartment. During dinner, Scott's girlfriend, Jenny announces she is pregnant. Scott is stunned, as the Burkes take in the awkward silence. Scott soon learns his girlfriend's baby isn't his baby, as Jenny leaves Scott for her ex (the father of the baby). Morgan and Justin learn Tracie likes the 12-year-old neighbor boy.

Ep5: Spencer Alert:
Cheyenne and Elise are not looking forward to their visiting, snobbish parents-Gary and Rose Spencer. The sisters are anxiously counting down the days of their parents visiting. Morgan is offended by Rose, after Rose criticizes her date in front of him. Jimmy works overtime in order to avoid his in-laws.

Ep6: Reunited Again:
Jimmy, Cheyenne, and Scott attend Jimmy and Scott's 25th high school reunion. While there, Jimmy and Cheyenne notice Scott is reunited with his high school sweetheart and longtime girlfriend, Caitlin (Heather Locklear). Meanwhile, back at home, Elise is suppose to spend the night with the kids. Morgan claims she is sleeping at her friend, Courtney's house, as Justin plans to sneak out to an all-night house party. Justin is caught by Morgan at the party. Morgan and Justin make a pact not to rat on each other--but end up getting caught when the party gets busted.

Ep7: Table For Four:
Cheyenne makes Jimmy come with her, as she goes out to eat with Caitlin and Scott. Cheyenne is happy for Scott and Caitlin, yet Jimmy is secretly jealous that Scott spends his free time with Caitlin instead of him. Elise gets dumped by her boyfriend on the same weekend as Morgan gets stood up. Morgan and Elise drown their sorrows into several pints of ice cream.

Ep8: Drives Us Crazy:
Morgan gets her license in a few weeks and is anxious to drive. Cheyenne and Jimmy avoid taking Morgan out driving, yet Elise offers to take Morgan out. After a hour of driving with Morgan, Elise thinks she "just lost 10 years off my life". Morgan's driving scares Elise, who lies and tells her she did a good job. Justin gets a new girlfriend, Katie (Jamie Lynn Spears). Katie becomes too controlling and needy for Justin to handle, and wants to go back just as friends-but is afraid to tell her how he really feels.

Ep9: Wife And Sister:
Elise and Jimmy buttheads about Cheyenne going with Elise to New York for a week. Jimmy doesn't want his wife gone, Elise feels Cheyenne deserves time away from Jimmy and the kids. Meanwhile, Morgan fears she is pregnant after having sex with her boyfriend a few weeks ago.

Ep10: Too Old And Too Young:
Tracie tells her parents she is too old to go trick or treating, as Justin goes to a haunted house with his friends, Jimmy, and Scott. Morgan learns is pregnant and the boyfriend wants nothing to do with her or the baby. Morgan confides her secret pregnancy to Elise, who feels obligated to tell Cheyenne.

Ep11: My Aunt The Rat:
Morgan is furious with Elise for telling Cheyenne. Cheyenne is stunned and wants proof, as Cheyenne takes Morgan to the doctor for series of pregnancy tests. Morgan is indeed three weeks pregnant. Justin's ex-girlfriend-turned-best-friend, Katie (Jamie Lynn Spears) befriends Tracie. Tracie and Katie start hanging out together as friends, that doesn't settle well with Justin.

Ep12: Jimmy Finds Out: Part One
Cheyenne and Morgan tell Jimmy about Morgan's news. Jimmy flips out and leaves the house in an outrage. Cheyenne and Morgan are left crying, as Jimmy goes to Scott's apartment to talk about Morgan's dilemma with Scott and Caitlin. Cheyenne tells Justin and Tracie about Morgan's pregnancy.

Ep13: Finding Jimmy: Part Two
Cheyenne and Elise go out and find Jimmy at Scott's apartment with Scott and Caitlin. Cheyenne and Jimmy get into a big argument in front of Elise, Scott, and Caitlin. Jimmy wants Morgan to get an abortion, as Cheyenne wants Morgan to keep the baby. Cheyenne doesn't want her daughter to have an abortion, as Jimmy doesn't want his daughter to keep the baby.
(Morgan, Justin, Tracie-don't appear. Jimmy, Cheyenne, Elise, Scott, Caitlin-only appear. Setting is only at Scott's apartment the whole episode.)

Ep14: Finding The Father:
Jimmy tries to get the name of the boy who is the father of Morgan's baby-that she has decided to keep. Morgan is reluctant to give out the baby's dad's name. Justin is disappointed in Morgan and tells her that in a very unsubtle way.

Ep15: Elise's Bad Date:
Elise goes out on a bad date, and later realizes her former date, recently after breaking it off with him, has won the lottery. Elise tries to sweet-talk her way back into his life..but no such luck. Tracie and Katie go to a girl friend of Katie's birthday party.

Ep16: Tough Break:
Justin finds out who got Morgan pregnant and decides to take matters into his own hands. Justin and the other kid get into a fight, get broken up and get suspended for 2 weeks. Jimmy is proud of his son, as Cheyenne, Morgan, and Elise aren't too sure Justin should have gotten into a fight-even though they all secretly are proud of him for beating up the jerk.

Ep17: Rumors ?:
Jimmy overhears a rumor about Morgan getting pregnant by a 20-something married man, during work. Jimmy becomes furious and enraged. Jimmy confronts the man who started the rumor (and to find out the man's son is the boy that actually got Morgan pregnant). Elise and Cheyenne get into a agruement over who makes the best apple pies for the holidays.

Ep18: Jimmy vs. Cheyenne:
Jimmy and Cheyenne are put to a test when they learn a married couple of friends (of theirs), Joe and Kelly have decided to get divorce. Jimmy takes Joe's side as Cheyenne takes Kelly's side. Let the feud begin. But after days of the on-going feud, true feelings and emotions escape and cause drama like no one excepted: Cheyenne moves out and in with Elise (in her apartment).

Ep19: Separation Anxieties:
With Cheyenne moved out of the house, Jimmy must take on all responsibilities in the house. Cheyenne is not happy with her current lifestyle change-living with her slobby sister. Cheyenne rethinks moving out, and Cheyenne ends up moving back with Jimmy as Jimmy and Cheyenne make amends with each other. Morgan, being 4 months pregnant, decides to quit the cheerleading squad in order to have a healthy baby.

Ep20: Morgan's Cramming:
Morgan crams for a biology exam and ends up not getting any sleep. When time to take the test, Morgan has a hard to staying awake and soon finds herself asleep minutes before class is over and she is nowhere near finishing. Justin tries to get Katie to notice him in another way than a friend.

Ep21: Stepping In...Too Far?!:
Elise steps in and demands Jimmy to let Cheyenne come with her to Elise's all-expenses paid week-long vacation to Las Vegas. Jimmy is upset by how Elise is butting into his and Cheyenne's marriage more often. Justin takes advice from Morgan on how to get Katie to go out with him again. Katie agrees to go out with Justin, under one condition: he has to be okay with Katie still being good friends with his sister Tracie. Justin gives in and lets Katie and Tracie still be good friends-even though he is not too fond of Tracie and his new girlfriend being as close as they are.

Ep22: Marriage Counseling:
Cheyenne and Jimmy go to marriage counseling. Elise sees Caitlin at the mall with another man (unbeknownst to Elise, he is her visiting brother from Dallas).

Ep23: Concert Of A Lifetime:
As Justin attends a big Snoop Dogg concert, Jimmy and Scott go there to "spy" on him. Cheyenne and Elise learn their ever-so-bickering parents: Gary and Rose, are getting a divorce after 40 years of marriage. The sisters are shocked about the news.

Ep24: Divorcing=Taking Sides:
Cheyenne and Elise feel they have to choose sides: Gary's side or Elise's side? Jimmy is told but Justin to leave him alone and give him some privacy, after interrupting him and Katie making out in his room.

Ep25: My Little Girl:
Tracie is turning 11 years old and wants a party for her friends, and ends up wanting to go be with her friends than with her family for their party for Tracie's birthday. Morgan's morning sickness is getting worse day by day. Elise is not happy when Rose decides to move in with her in her little apartment, Elise begs Jimmy and Cheyenne to help her get rid of Rose as soon as possible.

Ep26: Starting New Job:
Justin gets hired at the extreme sports equipment store at the mall, but Justin must take a pee test before starting. Justin goes nuts and refuses to take it, and quits. His parents find out why Justin didn't take the pee test : he recently smoked marijuana. Jimmy has a sit-down, serious talk with his son about smoking marijuana. Justin turns the questions onto Jimmy-who's tried it several times in high school. Morgan asks Cheyenne to accompany her to her doctor's appointment, after feeling too tired to drive by herself.

Ep27: Cell Phones For The Youngens:
Tracie begs Jimmy to let her get a cell phone at age 11. Tracie is angry with Jimmy who refuses to get her one until she turns 16 at least. Morgan's friend, Hannah (Brie Larsen) tells her that she was asked out by the boy who got Morgan pregnant (Travis). Morgan is promised by Hannah that she won't ever go out with Travis, but Morgan and Hannah have a little fun "playing games" with Travis instead.

Ep28: Jimmy's Long Lost Dad:
Jimmy's long-absent dad, Glenn (Tom Selleck) shows up after running out on Jimmy, Jimmy's siblings, and Jimmy's mom 25 years ago. Jimmy is still very hostile towards Glenn as aspected. Glenn apologizes for leaving and wants to make amends, but a still-furious Jimmy doesn't accept his apology and kicks his ass out of his house forever -telling him to never come back again. Elise and Rose get into a fight, resulting Rose to move back in with Gary and try to rekindle their marriage before its too late.
