what american people really thorght of australians???

in american tv shows like the simpsons you americans recon that there r kangaroos jumping around everywhere, but i havnt seen a kangaroo in years
and also they think we say weird stuff like gday mate, which we dont do

so wat do u think wer'e like?

Well they have to travel to Australia to find out about Australians. Just like you need to travel to the U.S. to know about Americans, or travel to Canada to know about Canadians, I guess.

I've been to Australia three years ago. My older sister lives there. I liked the visit a lot.

But to answer your question, I think you may be right. People perceive a lot about people and the way the behave, through the media.

But I also have to say, that to generalize all Americans perception based on what you may think is wrong as well. Its like the worlds perception that everyone thinks the same way the president of the US thinks. I have met a lot of people, and I agree that the G'day thing is a stereotype. I have friends who are from Ireland, and I have to admit that I was so ignorant that when I first met them, I thought every one from Ireland had red hair, listened to U2, and last name began with Mc.

There are also people that think certain minority groups are connected just because they see it on television.

Remember not everyone is so shallow, and gets their opinions from television.

As far as the Simpsons, just remember they make fun of everything and everybody. In my opinion its just their way of making fun of the stereotypes in our society.

In middleschool we twice had these dumbasses from the outback...reciting terrible poetry...

i'm sure there's not a lot of differences between the countries. australia is known for having lots of kangaroos, even if they don't hop around the streets and in your backyard. it's like how people think arizona is all dried up and full of cactuses and tumbleweeds. most of the vacant land is desert but the people and cities are just like any other, except for this ****ty town called tombstone down towards mexico where all these hicks live. and it does get cold. i hate how everyone seems to get the idea that it's warm all year. it takes longer for it to cool down in the fall than in other states but it gets below freezing very often in the winter.

If Americans have a misconception of Australians it's because Australia doesn't export information about itself.

The only exported TV show is The Crocodile Hunter. There are a few rock bands from Australia, but for the most part, information regarding life in modern Australia is non existant.

Because of that Americans have a limited sources of information on what Australia is really like.

People around the world seem to think Americans say "Have a nice day" all the time. In truth its only used by cashiers in stores.
