Default Funniest Character?

Who, in your opinion, was the funniest character of the show?

It has to be Buddy. After all, he was the human joke machine

Buddy goes without saying. He is a riot. I also love Millie. She has a very dry wit and doesn't hesitate to say what she thinks.

That's a hard question! But I think the character that makes me laugh out loud the most is Dick Van Dyke. Buddy and Sally are definitely witty and they have perfect timing, but it's Dick's physical comedy and facial expressions that I love! The scene in that episode "My Husband is not a Drunk" where he is trying to rescue the girl from the lining of his jacket...makes me laugh just thinking about it!!

Of course I have had a bit of a crush on Dick Van Dyke since I was little so I am sort of biased...

Buddy and Sally were the funniest to me. They had some of the best lines of the whole show!

For me it's Rob, hands down. Dick Van Dyke's responses to comments from other characters, his body language, and even his facial expressions are clear reasons why he was pitched as Reiner's replacement in the roll.

jillm816, It is nice to see another Virginian on this board. I think there are at least 3 more, including me. I live in Fairfax Station, just up the road from you. And I have to agree with you about Dick Van Dyke and his physical comedy. He is without equal. I love the scene in "The Return of Happy Spangler" where they do the lecture on comedy. A classic.

In my opinion, Rob himself is the funniest character. But I think the dynamic of Buddy and Sally together makes for the funniest moments. I really miss them in episodes where they are not featured prominently.

Thanks Lolac! I'm not a native to Virginia, but it is a nice place to live, especially in the fall. I'm not too fond of the traffic, though! The DVDS provides a nice escape from reality.

On a little different note, our favorite couple Rob and Laura Petrie have made Bravo's list of the 100 greatest TV characters. They are at 78. I don't know who the top ten characters are but it would be great if Buddy and/or Sally was in it! (The show airs on Bravo Nov. 22-26 if you want to watch... I don't know the times tho!)

Dick Van Dyke is definitely my favorite. I love his ability to do physical comedy so well. My favorite episode to watch him in is The Cat Burglar. The scene with Laura's music box is priceless. Buddy is also incredibly funny. The way he can just come up with a joke using any word or phrase takes a lot of talent.

Ohhhh, I love that episode too!!!! The music box is to funny, I admit. Also, it's so sweet how they're scared of each other, because they think one another is the burglar, haha, it's funny too. That's one of my favorite episodes

Toss up between DVD and MTM...they're both terrific. No one will ever top Laura's "Oh, ROB," moments, IMHO!
