I'm stunned at my aunt's latest display of idiocy. My 16 year old cousin goes online all the time...nothing wrong there. But she's befriended someone who has invited her to their house in London to stay overnight. I don't know if this person is male or female, how old they are, or how long they've been chatting to my cousin for but I was horrified when my aunt said she's going to let my cousin go.

I'm for meeting people off the internet if it's done with sense, like meeting in a public place, being over 18 or if not having parents with you...but to let a 16 year old girl (who suffers from depression which includes anoerix, self harm, no confidence and being on Prozac) go to somebody's house alone when they've never met before hand is madness in my opinion.

I'll have a really hard time feeling sorry for my aunt if she finds her daughter dead after this crazy stunt, because I have a really hard time believing that a parent (who is a teacher that works with bad behaved kids) can be so blind and stupid to the possible dangers...my mum pointed some dangers out to her and she said they hadn't even crossed her mind, but was still planning on letting her daughter go! It's insane.

Please, tell my aunt this isn't a good idea. I don't want my cousin to get hurt because of such awful parenting.

It is very stupid. But there is nothing we all can say to her to make her change her mind since she's in denial.

That isn't a good idea...She isn't old enough to go on her own. That just sounds like trouble to me. If I were her mother and she wanted to go so badly, I'd go right along with her.

What does your cousin's father have to say about this?

Is there anyone else in your family that can talk to your aunt about this situation?

Maybe someone from the police or someone from your church.

You need to act quickly and do some kind of prevention, before something terrible happens.

I hope everything turns out okay.

that is a very bad idea. I think meeting people off the internet is a bad idea, specifically being far away from your home and spending the night with that person....its a bad idea IMO

I think you should talk to your cousin instead, if you cant get through with your aunt. Afterall, SHE is the one who will be going, and is the one who can get hurt. Better yet, why not go WITH your cousin? Tell her to reschedule-- to meet in a populous area, and NOT stay overnight.

Yes I'm in England, she's in Wales. It really frustrates me that I can't do anything but thanks for the replies, I'm glad others agree that it's stupid.

My cousin and I don't get along, at all. She wouldn't listen to a word I said and would go just to disagree with me.

If it were me, and my cousin or aunt or no one else would listen to me, I'd notify the police, since she's a minor that guy could get in serious trouble, but then so could your aunt for letting her go

That's rediculous. At that point, as a parent, I'd only go as FAR as letting them meet while I was there supervising it in public.
