Default If a you received a tape from a trader and then discover that the quality is AWFUL,

do you still send the trader their tape or email the trader and explain that you cannot copy the shows he/she wants because the quaity of the show they sent you was too bad. The deal was for the person to send me the tape first since they responded to me first and once I got the tape I would then send their tape. But now I just will send their tape back since the show was too unwatchable due to bad quality. Am I in the wrong?

Did you discuss the quality of the tape(s) BEFORE the trade was agreed on? If they said it was great or very good, and it's very poor - you might have a case.

No the Quality was never discussed. I'm just confused as to why someone would send CRAPPY quality if they have to send first. He had to know i was going to evaluate the pictue quality before I sent him waht he wanted. Maybe he thought all the tape had to do was arrive to me in order for him to get his tape-lol

You shold always discuss the quality before finalizing the trade. Alot of times you trade with what you can find. Many older non syndicated shows you had to rely on the off chance somoene actually taped it AND stored the tapes somewhere where climate didn't effect it. It's tough, I know I have taken in stuff that the quality wasn't quite up to my preferences (and of course I had to send the same, does ANYONE actually have a complete run of SHAZAM or Isis that isn't in sub par condition?). You know how it is, but since the quality wasn't discussed you really should follow thru with the trade and remember to discuss quality up front next time.

But i'm talking about a JUMPY Picture which falls into the Unwatchable category. I know that you can expect PERFECT quality when looking for Rare shows but JUMPY pictures will not be accepted by me. I wouldn;t send no other trader a jumpy picture so why should I accept it from him?

Hmm, was this a show or a movie? If movie sounds like Macrovision issue, if show sounds like tracking or cleaning issue. Have you contacted the guy? It's possible he hasn't cleaned his heads in a while and isn't aware that the quality has degraded. See what he says then decide if your sending him back his tape or just waiting for another copy.

It was a TV Show not a movie. Also a trader is always supposed to check the quality of a show before sending out the tape.

Cool

sometimes when a person records a show on a 2 head vcr and it is played back in a 4 head vcr this tracking problem will surface due to the difference in picture heads.
the trader has a responsibilty to play back your tape in both of their vcr's to check for pic and sound consistency
also i think they are in the wrong not you because even if you didn't discuss the picture or forgot to, they have a duty to at least say "oh by the way do you know that the pic is poor-average".even if it means that they may lose the deal.i believe it is their place to say that.

The guy emailed me and said that it was in perfect condition when he previewed it. So that's why I ask did he record in LP mode. I remember having a problem when someone recorded in LP mode lat year and the picture would not stop jumping.
