I think Mary Tyler Moore is very overrated. It's not a bad show, but too many people say its the best sitcom which I don't think is true at all. I found it boring as a child and a teen. I watched some episodes recently and to me it is nothing all that special. Dick Van Dyke's show was more entertaining. I think the reason this show is so ballyhooed is because a lot of people who work in TV relate to the characters.
Barney Miller is pretty good to me, I think it's a show that appeals to a certain type of viewer. Same thing with MASH, I'm surprised MASH is/was as popular as it is, I find it a dreary show to have to sit through, it is very depressing to me. It may be very intelligent etc but it is very depressing. |

Friends and Lovers did finish at #25 in the Neilsen Ratings but that was way too low following a #1 rated show. |

Barney Miller
Happy Days Laverne & Shirley Paul Sands in Friends and Lovers - It was #25 in ratings when the plug was pulled. Bridget Loves Bernie was #5 in the ratings when it got cancelled and it was because of religious groups was putting pressure on CBS about the show. The show had potential of being a great show. |

To me the most overrated 1970s TV show was All in the Family. I watch TV to be entertained, and shows should follow the same formula as Leave It To Beaver, Family Matters, Laverne and Shirley and The Andy Griffith Show.
