Sanford- Sanford was better

Jeffersons- Good Times was better. They had more laughs than the J's.

That's my Mama- Good Times was better. I remember TMM when it first premiered. How about Isaac/Ted Lange? "Whooooo weee. I got it, I got it, I got to report it". Haven't watched it in over 20 years, but still remember him doing that line.

What's Happening- WH was better. Hey, at least they weren't poor. Always struggling. I could relate to that. Three friends who enjoyed being around one another. I had two friends the same way growing up.

Cosby Show- Good Times dammit. Bill mugged too much to get upset. Besides, the kids all loved one another. never got in trouble. The worse punishement they would receive was to clean the kitchen, or something like that.

Good Times isn't my all time favorite show, but it is definitely up in the top 5.

GOOD TIMES vs:

SANFORD AND SON- S&S is funnier to me than Good Times, but GT had more meaningful and interesting stories.

THE JEFFERSONS- I like Good Times a tad better because of James Evans.

THAT'S MY MAMA- From what I remember, Good Times had much better writing and more memorable episodes.

WHAT'S HAPPENING- I like Good Times better, but haven't seen W.H. in years . . .

COSBY SHOW- FORGET IT!!! Good Times is SOOOOOOOO much better and interesting to me. I always ended up getting bored with the Cosby Show. Everything was TOOO layed back for me.

Sanford and Son- Just as good, although I have to admit that while I have 2 of the 3 Good Times DVDs I am in no rush to get any of the S&S ones... not yet anyway

Jeffersons- Jeffersons is better to me, both shows had downward moments, but Jeffersons never fell as far down as GT did in season 5

That's My Mama- Don't remember it, but judging from the other things i've seen Clifton Davis in I doubt this was better than GT

What's Happening-Not sure which is better, GT has more rawness to it and appeals to me more as an adult than WH

Cosby Show- To me Cosby's Show is just a bit too politically correct for its own good, entertaining but self-consciously so especially from year 3 onward. GT is more entertaining

So...you wanna know if "Good Times" was better than these five other Black sitcoms from the seventies, eh? Well...let's see...

Sanford and Son: Actually. I'd have to give the edge to S&S, if for no other reason than it was less preachy than GT (I watch a sitcom to LAUGH, not worry about some fictional family gettin' evicted...we had enough of THAT in real life!)

The Jeffersons: I'd have to rate this show LOWER because it was even PREACHIER than GT, plus the replacement Lionel was strictly from dullsville.

That's My Mama: Preachiness, on the other hand would have probably HELPED this dreary-@$$ed show a bit, Ted Lange notwithstanding...

What's Happening: Considering the fact that Eric Monte also created this show, you would think that "Good Times" and "What's Happening'' is pretty much the same show...and it is, up to a point. Someone (possibly the network) decided that this show wouldn't focus on the horrors of inner-city living the way "Good Times" did, but the result was a show that seemed, at best, goofy and silly and, at worst, wholly unrealistic.

And speaking of unrealistic, we come to...

The Cosby Show: ...or, as I like to call it, "Father Knows Best In Blackface''. I could not identify with one character on this show, the father being a goofball, the mother a priggish prude, and the kids so cute it gave me cavities! I had a hard time reconcilling this Bill Cosby with the Bill Cosby I saw and respected on "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids" and as Chet Kincaid on "The Bill Cosby Show" from the early 70s (or, for that matter, supercool government agent Alexander Scott on "I Spy"). I give "Good Times" the edge here, if only because, despite their dire situations, the Evanses were more real to me than the Huxtables (hell, "The Proud Family" is more realistic than the Huxtables!)

1-Sanford And Son was slightly better.

2 Jeffersons was way better and is my favorite sitcom spin-off.

3-Thats My Mama- Good Times was better although TMM was an underrated show.

4-What's Happening- Good Times was better. WH was good but I really didn't care for the 3rd season much.

5-The Cosby Show- TCH was better especially in the early years.

Ted Lange's character would have been a good fit for Good Times or What's Happening. I GOT IT, I GOT IT, and I GOSTA TO REPORT IT!!!-LOL
