Default "When Girls Collide"

"she hasn't laughed since the mark harmon episode"

NOW THIS, is a true MOONLIGHTING episode. this is one that is as good as the 2nd and 3rd seasons type of episodes.
annie charnock arrives. and the triangle is created.
i really hate the defensive way david treats maddie at the end.

i really liked herbert's film presentation. glad to see he's so on the job.

what's the deal with dave's hair?? i noticed while he and annie were dancing, it looked woven in the back. is it movie related?

who was that babe at the beginning at the elevator? sure looked familair.

one of the best in a long time.

rating: 9.6

I'm sorry, but I detest this one so much that I can't even watch it. The ONLY thing I can say is that David looked SOOO good in black. I just can't buy the fact that he would treat Maddie like this. I think the writers were trying to reverse the Mark Harmon storyline here, but it just doesn't ring true to me at all. (And I didn't even have to say the b----'s name!)

the way they treated each other was bad. i could take maddie acting as she did IF she acted as such because she was concerned about annie being married. she can say that's it all she wants but the truth is, she didn't want dave to be with annie. she is still hiding her feelings.
dave was just following through with annie, not in retaliation, but i think he would feel that maddie will never let him into her heart. so he goes where he is welcomed. and it just happened to be someone close to maddie.

I give this one a 0.6 -- I don't understand your love of this episode at all.

I thought the episode was hurtful and sad. I think the writers tried to re-create the Sam/Maddie/David trilogy and that the writers/producers failed badly. There was no love in this or the next 2 episodes (Eine Kleine... and Lunar Eclipse). There seemd to be no indecision on David's part. It seemed all seemed contrived to me. As I recall, Virginia Madsen was on the cover of People, just as Mark Harmon had been. I could go on and on.

I JUST HATED THIS EPISODE.

Me too. I saw it two times. (I have no idea why I did that btw)
It was so not Maddie and so not David.

I....I can't even talk about this episode

i don't see how you guys can hate this one so much ????
it had all the old quality everything that the show had been missing.
it had the tension between dave and maddie. it had both of them denying the truth about how they feel about each other. it had great chemistry between dave-maddie, dave-annie, and annie-maddie. it had all the great subplots stroylines with office personell. it has bert trying his best to become a master detective. all the music set the scenes just right. ??????
i just don't see what we see so different. oh well, just shows we are different.

In which scenes did you see David showing feelings for Maddie in When Girls Collide? I didn't see a "torn between two women" David at all.

I gotta agree with the others here, bry. This is one dismal episode.

First off, the two setups at the beginning...Maddie in her shrinks office and David with the "roving" eye in the elevator....puts the viewer on notice that this episode is going to be about how each of the two try to "move on" past their failed relationship. And that I am afraid is exactly what is wrong with this episode and the ones that follow up. As Moonlighting fans of David and Maddie and especially of David and Maddie TOGETHER....that is just not what we are tuning in for. Sorry!

So as the episode tries to explore this conflict and David grows further apart from Maddie and Maddie retreats more and more into denial that David's separation is bothering her, collectively our stomachs start to turn.

We all see Annie as the interloper in much the same way that we saw Walter Bishop as the interloper. Sam we could deal with and the triangle worked and kept us involved. Walter and now Annie feels like someone is jerking us around. What was the whole triangle with Sam all about but resolving the situation for us by getting David and Maddie together? We loved it and the ratings reflected that. But trying to rebeat that drum by throwing a monkey wrench in first with Walter and then with Annie, well we had been there, done that and had the emotional scars to prove it. This seemed contrived by the writers to us because it felt wrong to us knowing what all had gone before.

So bry, it isn't necessarily we didn't like the tension....we didn't like the cause of the tension this time and we sure didn't like the outside character coming in to cause the conflict. Usually M&D have enough conflict between themselves to cause the tension. Get rid of these guest stars coming in and messing with the dynamic--other than in the trilogy, it never worked--not with Camille, not with Walter Bishop, and certainly not with Annie.

i don't know, i just see it. it is not an "in your face" type of thing i see, but rather a form of denial and "moving on" to prove to themselves that they are over each other. a forced moving on.
i said earlier that i felt david went where he was emotionaly welcomed and that was with annie, but that is not neccessarily where he wanted to be. so he settled for what he could, with her instead of with maddie.

Contrary again I am with Bry on this one to a certain extent. David couldn't have Maddie and he couldn't have the elevator girl so he took the next woman to come along.

I am sure if the show hadn't finished and there ahd been time to resolve things we might look on these Annie episodes alittle less hatefully.

For me, until recently they were some of the few I had watched and there is still enough magic in them to make me love the show

I think David, in particular, was written very badly in this one. In the Mark Harmon episodes, we genuinely felt Maddie struggle between between her head and her heart until she finally let herself admit how she felt about David. In this one, we never see David struggle at all. I can understand that he must have been pretty sick of the way Maddie treated him, but for him to fall right into an affair with her (married!) cousin just doesn't seem like David to me. (At least she seemed a little concerned about whether it would hurt Maddie.) In the last scene where Maddie came to his apartment to talk, he treated her terribly. In any other season, David would have jumped at any opportunity she gave him to make up. They obviously wanted the cliff hanger to lead into the next episode, but I didn't see the old tension between them so much as anger on David's part. It just didn't make any sense to me.

I agree with you, CyBr, on everything you wrote.
I think the apartment scene with David and Maddie is my least favorite scene in Moonlighting. Talk about being mean spirited and downright hurtful!

I think this episode reflects exactly the way the show was going.
Down!
M & D hardly have any chemistry on this one and the last ones.
David is cold and bitter and we start to feel sorry for Maddie.
Maddie has always been the cold one but always with a heart, this attitude doesn't become David.

To me this was:" David.... with a vengeance......"

Is this the episode where David and Annie wander around the streets to "Just my imagination"? When seeing that scene, I often thought it should have been written for David and Maddie instead. I hate the bit where David and Annie disapear, leaving Maddie, like some old maiden aunt asleep unstairs... Very mean spirited and horrible...

Okay--I'm really lost here. Maddie and David seem so different in the pilot and the first three episodes, it seemed that it was a fun, intense, sexy, loving, goofy show. and yet this 4th episode....I don't get it.
Glen Gordon Caron, what are you thinking?
Moonlighting has taken a turn, now it is quite serious and Maddie and David don't even like each other. And I don't like David at all--I really thought I was getting a cozy sort of starting to fall in love with this goofball, but I really can't imagine any woman wanting him anywhere near her. And why would he kick his boss out of his bedroom. If she's there ( She is Madolyn Hayes--the moral one from the episode before this one) she obvious needs to talk to him. And they seemed to smile in there eyes whenever they talked to each other before this episode. In this episode it just seemed like two people who really, really dislike one another.
