Were back for another Motown 45th Anniversary Artist Avatar of the Week. Where this week will feature Motown's sensational girl group, Martha & the Vandellas. The group started in the early 60's as the Del-Phi's. The group had changed its name to the Vels who had their only hit on the tiny Melody label, a local label in Detroit. And then it became the Vandellas. The lineup includes Annette Beard, Gloria Williams, Rosalind Ashford and Martha Reeves who later became a secretary at Motown records. They first backed up with Marvin Gaye on two song in 1962 includes "Stubborn Kind of Fellow" and "Hitchhike". Their first record was "I'll Have to Let Him Go" in 1963. Martha's first big hit was "Come and Get Thest Memories" written by the team of Holland-Dozier-Holland. Their next few songs are just big hits like "Heatwave", "Quicksand" and "Dancing In the Street" was a smash hit after replacing Betty Kelly and Beard left. They continued to have big hits like "I'm Ready for Love" and "Nowhere to Run". Kelly also left and replaced with her sister Lois and continued to have successful hits such as 1967's "Jimmy Mack" and "Honey Chile". The group broke up in 1972. Martha Reeves went solo effort in the 70's and didn't exactly do well. In the 1990's, the group reunited after being sued Motown for back royalties. They were just famous.

Thanks for posting this Fullhouse.
Honey Chile is a song I have wondered who was the group that sang that song. I always thought they were better than the Supremes, and we know why the Supremes became popular.
