I was just wondering if anyone knows. When Hollywood used to be called "HollywoodLand" back in the 1920's and when they removed the "land" letters from the sign, where do you think they put them?

"In the trash" is probably correct.
If I remember what I've read and heard through the years, the entire sign had been in a state of disrepair. Whoever it was who decided to renovate the sign made the choice to not fix the "land" part of it. I believe that the sign was originally just an advertisement for some kind of real estate development, called Hollywoodland. |

I don't know where the letters went, but here's a bio of the sign, which is also my avatar. Lots of history with that famous landmark. |
