I know that The Exorcist has been discussed before, but I couldn't find a thread that dealt specifically with the various versions.
Did anyone see The Exorcist shown on the USA Network on the evening of 10/30? I saw it and I would have to say it's the first time that I saw that version, and I'm not too fond of that version. I wasn't able to determine whether the version that was shown on the USA network was the original theatrical version, or some special network TV release version or even the 25th anniversary DVD version. Perhaps someone can help with a description of two scenes at the end: 1. When Chris MacNeil gives Father Dyer Father Karras' medal, he keeps it. In some versions, he gives it back to her and says "I think you should keep it". 2. After Father Dyer looks down the infamous steps, he turns back and walks away and the closing credits start right then and there. In other versions I've seen, Dyer meets up with Lt. Kinderman in front of the house, make some chit-chat, and go off to lunch together. On a final note, I actually visited the Exorcist house and the infamous steps on a trip to Washington DC last March. I will say that the distance from the window to the stairs is too far and nobody who jumps out that window would land and fall down the stairs as indicated in the movie. |
