Default "I See England, I See France, I See Maddie's Netherworld"

"you were just spooked because it had the grim reaper's cooties on it"

a would be client dies in maddie's office. it turns into a chase for the dead man's tatoo. it has special meaning to many.
dave and maddie find themselves in many predicaments here. the funniest is when the dog walks up as they are buried up to their heads in the grave.
the whole dream sequence maddie had was just bad to me. i hated it.
this is one of my least liked episodes. but it did have some good moments.

rating: 3

I didn't like it much either. Bruce Willis says in the pilot DVD commentary that he thinks this was one of the funniest episodes. Sorry, I just don't agree.

I'm with Carina here. This is one of my favorite season 5 episodes...but of course that isn't saying a whole lot LOL!

I did not care for Maddie's nightmare...it felt like so much filler. All it did do remotely related to the story line was show her fears and worries about death....but that was about it.

But what is so great is the situation with the client that dies and how the whole office reacts. Hilarious how everyone is whispering and then screams when David pops out the office door speaking in his normal voice. And how everyone gets the giggles about the time the coroners show up!.

And dragging that body all around is so so so Hitchcockian. Funny when he is perched up in the back seat of the bimmer with Maddie and David in the front.

Cemetary scene is funny. So is the freezer scene. But the shower scene is the best of all. Just a great scene between Maddie and David and I love how much like the fun-loving David of old this episode is....with him trying to make the best out of a bad situation...and constantly cracking one liners even with the bad guys.

How can you not laugh at some of the stuff going on in this episode? Even the epilogue is funny (and very naughty, I might add).

The shower scene was funny and the end was cute, but I guess the rest of it was just a little too morbid for my taste.

And ofcourse David's reaction when they enter Maddie's bedroom.......
"We have to call the CIA and the FBI"

I thought this was a great but bizarre episode.

Maddies nightmare was a bit...well...too much for me

I loved the part where Agnes asks: "Why are we all whispering?" and then David enters the room and the whole office screams and laugh out loud

The scene where they are both stuck in a grave is fun too.

David: Maddie, don't be such a stiff

And then that dog LMAO! He licked David all over, Maddies comment on that was hilarious.

Oh and the shower-scene, oof, that was great!

I can see why Bruce likes this episode, they all had so much fun doing this

David: What? You want me to die with a grin on my face, right? (or something like that)

Seeing this episode makes me think they had fun untill the end . I could be wrong of course

If you compare the Pilot episode with this one, you can see how much Maddie has grown. In the Pilot she is afraid of the dead man in the backseat of her car and in this episode she just pushed him back in his place. Quite amazing. But then again, it's just television

A nice comparison/contrast Steph in your mention of the dead guys in the back seats of the cars. An A+ for you on your critical essay!

This episode also can be compared to the pilot to see other signs of change in several other aspects:

*the case.... a dead person appears in front of Maddie and David has to convince her they need to investigate more to get to the bottom of what is really going on....just like in the pilot.

*each episode has a scene of bad guys looking for an object that was in possession of the bad guy and then threatening David and Maddie because the bad guys believe David and Maddie have the valued item.

*And while we are at it....we can also look at the tied up scene in the kitchen in pilot and the tied up scene in the shower in I See England.... notice some of the similarities and the differences.

Look how much trust and cooperation is between them now as opposed to the pilot. Look how together they operate as a team.

I know these are old posts but I'm new and I've nothing better to do than sit here and give my opinions on these episodes!

I'd not noticed the similarities between this episode and the Pilot. And yet when they're pointed out, they're suddenly so obvious!

I thought this episode was a bit weird. The Season 5 episodes bug me because I think Maddie's hair looks terrible in all of them . . . *ahem*
Anyway, I think the cemetary scene is quite amusing but I was annoyed because they just magically get out of the ground. How did they manage that?!

The shower scene is good though

I always thought the grounds caretaker most have come to from his faint and helped them out....or maybe that dog did a Lassie and went and got help to rescue them. LOL!
