It seemed to me that Phyllis was just thrown together because i was trying to stay awake bu couldn;t. And the Opening Theme Song for Phyllis gave me a ear ache. But Rhoda was very fun to watch. I liked Rhoda much better because the Rhoda character and her mother were very entertaining and I will defintely buy the DVD if the first season was ever released

. I just don't think Phyllis was an endearing enough character to carry a whole show. Rhoda, on the other hand, was a big audience favorite. Plus, one of the best things about TMTMS was the banter between Rhoda and Phyllis, and that was obviously lost when both characters were spun off.

Rhoda was the better spinoff,it was so rich with colourful characters Rhoda,Brenda,Ida and Charlton, the always drunk but never seen Doorman.
Its only recently that I've seen the entire run of Phyllis, the character was certainly watered down from her MTMS days,no reference was given to her degree or how intelligent she was,she was potrayed, particularly in season 1 of "Phyllis" as none too bright. The introduction of Mother Dexter in "Phyllis" certainly gave the show a rich character who was more than able to put Phyllis down! |

Both shows had good theme songs, IMO, but Rhoda was better mostly because the character was better. Phyllis, IMO, was too grating a character to star in her own series, similar to the idea of a M*A*S*H spinoff starring Frank Burns. They work fine as supporting characters, but they couldn't carry their own series very well.

Rhoda, for darn sure!
I liked the Phyllis theme song, though! |
