Sad Today is the 1-Year Anniversary of the Death of Rod Roddy

I must say that today is the 1-year anniversary of the passing of "The Price Is Right's" second announcer, Rod Roddy. For those of you watches the show, whatever you are, Rich Fields is now hanging in there as the third announcer. I found 2 clips from KQV tribute site in memory of Rod Roddy. These are the clips that Rod Roddy was hosting a show as a disc jockey on Pittsburgh's KQV. Here is a description from the KQV website:

Quote:
Rod Roddy was only at KQV for a short time. Rod joined KQV April 25th 1960 for the 9 to midnight shift from KOMA in Oklahoma City. He began his radio career while attending Texas Chrisian University. In April 1961, Rod moved KQV's morning show. His evening show had been so successful that crowd control outside of KQV's showcase studio had become a problem. Rod left KQV in June of 1961.

Rod's second career was a television announcer. He was known for his booming voice and his flamboyant jackets. Rod's best known work was the announcer on the "Price Is Right". Other game shows included "Battlestars", "Hit Man", "Press Your Luck", "Love Connection" and "Family Feud". He was also the announcer on the ABC hit comedy "Soap".

On Monday, October 27th, 2003, Rod Roddy passed away in Hollywood. Roddy, who suffered from colon and breast cancer, died at Century Hospital. He was 66 years old. He had been hospitalized for two months
Here are two clips of Rod Roddy during his radio career at KQV in Pittsburgh:

1. Rod Roddy's Opening from 1960
2. Rod Roddy from September 9th, 1960

Share your thoughts about Rod Roddy and his passing one year ago this week and tell us all about these clips. Thanks!

Tvgameshows.net has another article about the one-year anniversary of Rod Roddy's death. Here it is:

Quote:
ONE YEAR AGO: ROD RODDY LEAVES BEHIND MIKE LEGACY

This is one of those days where television viewers will say, "I can't believe Rod Roddy has been gone a year."

One year ago today, Roddy died after a lengthy battle with cancer at Century City Hospital in suburban Los Angeles. He was 66.

In August, Roddy was remembered, along with five other personalities, during a memorial at Game Show Congress in Burbank.

The veteran announcer, who was described by former late night talk show host Tom Snyder as "one of the greatest of the top 40 radio personalities before he started doing game shows," had battled colon and breast cancer for more than two years but continued to work as much as possible.

In 1981-85, he was the frequent voice of "Love Connection: and connectedwith viewers as the announcer on "Press Your Luck" in 1983-86.

His signature role came in 1986 when he was tapped to succeed the late Johnny Olsen for the call of "Come on down!" on "The Price Is Right".

At the time of his death, "Price" host Bob Barker said: "We all admired nis courage....he was always upbeat and hopeful." Shortly before the announcer's death, Bakrker visited Roddy in the hospital and said, "We laughed the whole time we were talking. He was still having fun."
