Today on the second episode they played a segment where a pervert murdered a woman and her two daughters by throwing them alive and conscious into a river while bound. I am thinking this is the most sadistic thing Unsolved mysteries ever profiled. this is certainly not the most sadistic crime I've EVER heard of but I can think of few other segments the show did that was worse, especially since youngsters were victims. Two other cases where I feel similar is the one where the guy drowned a woman who accused him of sexual assault; her baby was never found and the convicted killer is suspected of murdering three other men. The other case is the "Greenriver" murders, that makes me nauseous just thinking about it. Anyone else have nominations for crimes on the show that just disturbed them more than the rest?

1. Rachel Runyan - 3 year old believed to have been abducted for use in a "snuff film" - a film of her being sexually assaulted and murdered. 2. Those sick bastards who blew up an innocent and friendly sea lion beloved by a local community on the California coast. 3. The story about the two teenage lovers who were murdered while vacationing in Washington. The killer sent gruesome greeting cards to the victim's families after the murders. 4. The story about the woman whose baby was abducted from a New York hospital in 1985. The mother and a relative were held at gunpoint while the newborn was taken from them. Lots more that I can't think of right now. Justin |

Dallas Links, make that two votes for that case being the worst crime: the murders of Joan, Michelle and Christe Rogers by Oba Chandler on June 1, 1989. I was traumatized for days over that.
Runners-up: -Unknown man who killed two people and injured another at a rest stop in Blind River, Ontario, Canada. -Unknown serial rapist from the Boston area. |

Quite a few
- The bank manager who was abducted and thrown in the river. -The elderly lady who was allegeded held hostage and was going to be sealed in a basement with only a few jugs of water. She was never found. -The lady who was burned alive in bed at Washington D.C. -The Dave Freemand case where he murdered Tim Good. -That pervert who flashed the kids and killed the guy who tried to stop him infront of his mother. -The old man who was beaten and strangled inside of his house while his wife was away. They had a creepy scetch of some white guy with dread locks. -Last but not least the two teenagers who went on a crime/murder spree down south. They killed a mother of a little baby. Two old men and savagely beat them both for hours before they finally murdered them, and also another black male who tried to help them with the car. There are many more I know I forgot a few, but I can not post them all. Sick Sick Sick people.

What disturbs me the most are the crimes where a person murdered or TRIED to murder a person/persons with no motive what-so-ever.
***The trucker that tried to run over the motorcyclist. He survived but lost both of his legs. (What did the trucker have to gain by doing this? Was he bored?) ***Brad Bishop killing his wife, mother and 3 sons in 1976 and later burning their bodies. (What could cause a man to snap and just kill his family like that? Losing a premotion shouldn't have THAT kind of effect on a person.) ***Mable Woods dog kettle fire in Missouri. (What kind of scum could kill 60 dogs like that? The kettle/farm was far away from any neighbors so the dogs barking couldn't have annoyed anyone. The person that did this just wanted to see Mable suffer.) ***Joe Weldon Smith killing his wife and 2 step daughters in Las Vegas. (I know he had priorly been convicted of grand theft and had the reputation as a con man but how does that equal to murderer? The sicko obviously killed these women and I'm glad he was caught but we never found out why he killed them in the first place.) |

Wow guys, the cases you've mentioned have really refreshed my memories as I forgot how sick and disturbing they all were, too. These are the types of stories that make me depressed about life though I feel the majority of us- or at least many- are decent people who only want to live and let live. BTW, here is a link I found on Oba Chandler, he's rightfully receiving the death penalty and I wish they'd go ahead and get on with it!

Three cases come to my mind (all of which are still unresolved):
1) The 1991 murder of Bill Henderson. He was a elderly Texas man who was found beaten and strangled in his own house. Because of his failing health, Henderson was unable to defend himself against his killer. The unknown killer (who drove away in Henderson's pickup truck) must have had a disregard for human life. 2) Robert William Fisher. He is wanted for the 2001 murders of his wife and two children. After the killings, his Arizona home was set on fire in an obvious (but vain) attempt to cover up the crime. He has been repeatedly profiled on America's Most Wanted, most recently this past summer. 3) The 1991 murder of Tommy Burkett. The authorities desperately and pathetically tried to convince the Burkett family and everyone else that it was a suicide, even though there's overwhelming evidence to the contrary. (The Burkett family reportedly has information as to who may have killed Tommy, but they probably still don't have enough evidence to justify publicly disclosing names.)

unsolvedfan4life, are you referring to the murder of Dan Short in the description "The bank manager who was abducted and thrown in the river?" Dan Short was the president of the State Bank of Noel in Missouri. In October 1989, he was abducted from his home in Arkansas and compelled to open the bank to permit his abductors to burgle it before being taped and chained to a chair and thrown into the Cowskin bridge on Grand Lake in Delaware County, Oklahoma.

I still think that one that took place in New Hampshire of that woman who was abducted from a Hallmark Store and taken somewhere and raped and killed. THey are pretty sure she did not know her killer and she was a beloved school teacher...that was one that really got to me.
Also the orange sock murders in colorodo. The case has been discussed in depth on these boards here. The two teens who killed that mother, the two old men and the guy who tried to help them. The guy who killed that guy after following him and his girlfriend driving. They think he killed him beause of his license plate saying he loved the 49ners....the guy who potrayed him was scary looking... And finally the one that made me cry hysterically was the one with the family driving on a road and another car trying to play chicken with him and then they shot into the car and killed the baby boy in the back. They caught the killers thank god....but that story still brings tears to my eyes.... |

So many of the crime segments they show are just heartbreaking, Another one that comes to mind is the mother who abducted her son and went on the run. The boy's father spent years trying to find him. Unfortunately, the boy died (of leukemia, I think) before they were able to be reunited.

The boy who died of leukima was on yesterdays episode. It made me cry and the mother never spent a day in jail...so sad.
I kept wondering why the cops never seemed to be helping out that dad. I thought he was very smart to go through the familys garbage and find out they were in dallas and do surveillance but i kept asking where the cops were?? |

The father was Bill Day. His son that died of cancer was named Christoph. So, so sad. You just know that Betty Day filled her son with all of these lies about his father.
Are you sure that Betty Day never got any jail time? Before she took Christoph into hiding, she kept breaking court orders for her ex-husband to share custody. I would hate to think that that woman never got punished for all the pain and suffering she caused for Bill. |

I agree with you ddelta! That one with the little boy was heartbreaking! He was sitting in the back seat and I think they said he held his teddy bear close to him for comfort. The bullet went through the bear and the baby killing him instantly. This is a story I can't bear to tape and put in my collection, its just too sad.

Yes that case is the Lisa Ziegert case.
And I agree with you crystal dawn that was one of the most upsettting and sensless cases that UM every did. Watching those parents just broke my heart...I thank god they caught the scumbag. Also, the mother in the Dey case did not do jail because they said in the episode that she was only wanted for Passport Fraud and she went to France after the abduction where their son died. |
