I think the Superman series actually ran its course after the second film. The third film, which co-starred Richard Pryor was a joke, and film four was only slightly better. When Richard Pryor starts showing up in Superman films, then I think it is time to call it a day.

I liked the third film. It has great camp value and Richard Pryor was funny.

The forth film was the one that killed the franchise. When they begin having superman literally push the moon with his hands, its time to call it a day.

I believe a new superman could work. Especially with modern special effects. They created some great flying scenes with Neo in Matrix: Reloaded. Similar techniques can be applied to superman.

I would like to see the new superman film set in the 30s. The decade in which the character was created.

I agree, 3 isn't that bad, it's a lot more comedic than the others. It does not compare to the first two, but it still had some good moments. But 4 was just awful, tho I admit I liked it as a kid, but even then thought it was a weaker film than 1-3.

Christopher does not do the Superman movies, because he died a week ago. His four Superman movies are just enough for me.

He JUST died. We don't need to be trying to recast his signture role right this moment. Sheesh.

How would we like it if they'd announced a new Jack Tripper the week John Ritter died?

Well, Hollywood I'm sure isn't concerned about ethics. I could easily see a studio using Reeve's death as publicity for a new Superman movie.

So what? It was still the man's most famous role. I just think it's really nasty to announce a new one right this second.

Aside from that - with the old TV show, the cartoon, Lois & Clark, Smallville, and the movies - do we need another one?

I dunno, I mean, I LOVE the old one's with Christopher Reeve in them, absolutely love them, and they're not that old, however I know that nowadays they could have different special effects that make it a lot better but *shrugs*.

As for the whole Christopher Reeve thing, my opinions are (and I'm a huge fan of his just to mention as a side note) there had already been a lot of discussion of making a new Superman movie, it's not like it was something that just came about. And also, with the whole Jack Tripper reference, that show like the Superman movies have run it's course and have been completed for years so the only reason the original actors would have to play their original characters was if it was a reunion movie/show. Now if they were trying to make a reunion Superman movie, first of all that movie would be suicide in itself, but THAT is the situation when they shouldn't recast characters. As for remakes of the movies, Christopher Reeve wouldn't be playing Superman in it so I don't exactly see what the issue is especially since it's been in the works. Don't get me wrong, I feel it would be extremely disrespectful if it came out like...tomorrow. So it's not really the question of Christopher Reeve or the movies in my opinion, to me it's: Has it been enough time to make remakes?

I agree with that too, Superman was released about 26 years ago. While that has been awhile, it really has not been anywhere near long enough to go "well, this is a new Superman, since the old ones are vintage".

I can see maybe in 20 years doing a new one, but as of now, the Reeve movies still serve their purpose for a Superman movie.
