Default NBC press release for ratings

BURBANK, Calif. -- October 19, 2004 -- With potent ratings from such new and returning series as "The Apprentice," "ER," "Joey," "Medical Investigation" and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," as well as high-octane Saturday results from NASCAR racing, NBC has finished the fourth week of the 2004-05 television season #2 among adults 18-49 behind only baseball-boosted Fox, according to in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research. NBC was #1 for the week in the valuable demographics of women 18-34, women 18-49 and adults 18-34 (tied with Fox). Excluding sports from the weekly results, NBC was #1 in adults 18-49 and numerous other key demographics.

NBC is up versus the same week last year by 11 percent among adults 18-49 and 5 percent among overall total viewers in an atypical week that included six nights of primetime baseball coverage on Fox and a Wednesday Presidential debate that preempted two hours of regular programming on NBC, CBS and ABC.

NBC's schedule included 12 top-30 programs for the week in adults 18-49 (more than any other network). NBC also placed a show in the top-30 from five different nights of the week. "The Apprentice," which ranked #5 for the week among all programs in 18-49, was the #1 unscripted series on television this week, as it is season-to-date.

In an unusually competitive weekly race, NBC finished #2 in adults 18-49, while ranking #1 in adults 18-34 (tied with Fox) and #1 in the key adult-female demographics of women 18-34 and women 18-49. For the week in adults 18-49, Fox led with a 4.2 rating, 12 share, followed by NBC (4.0/11), CBS (3.9/11), ABC (3.8/10), WB (1.6/4) and UPN (1.6/4). In total viewers, the weeklong averages were CBS (12.9 million), Fox (11.8 million), NBC (10.2 million), ABC (10.0 million), WB (4.0 million) and UPN (3.7 million).

Excluding sports from the weekly averages, the primetime 18-49 weekly order is NBC (4.1), CBS (3.8), ABC (3.5), Fox (1.7), WB (1.6) and UPN (1.5). NBC was also #1 for the week in non-sports averages in adults, men and women 18-34, women 18-49 and men 18-49 (tied with CBS).

SUNDAY

From 7-8 p.m. ET, "Dateline NBC" (1.9/6 in 18-49, 7.1 million viewers overall) improved by 19 percent on its rating for the same night last year.

At 8 p.m. ET, "American Dreams" (2.2/5 in 18-49, 6.4 million viewers overall) built on its 18-49 lead-in by 16 percent.
