'Amazing Race' Sends 'Clubhouse' to Saturday Bench
(Wednesday, October 20 11:00 AM) LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) CBS isn't benching struggling freshman drama "Clubhouse," but the network seems to have decided that the show isn't worthy of a place in its starting rotation. The network has cleared out the Tuesday 9 p.m. ET time slot for "The Amazing Race 6," sending "Clubhouse" off to the weekend, effective immediately. The latest "Amazing Race" will have a two-hour premiere on Tuesday, Nov. 16. "Clubhouse" will make its Saturday 8 p.m. premiere on Nov. 6. "Clubhouse" hasn't been a total failure, averaging 9.18 million viewers for its first two episodes, but the show has lost around five million viewers per week from its lead-in "NCIS," which has become a clear hit in its second season. In addition, CBS' decision to add "Clubhouse" and drop reliable veteran "The Guardian" was done in the hopes of attracting younger viewers, but the baseball series has failed to deliver in the 18-49 demographic. In its past two weeks, the fictional diamond action of "Clubhouse" has been smacked around by FOX's coverage of real playoff baseball. "Clubhouse" will now become the only scripted series to air new Saturday episodes on any network. "Clubhouse" moves into the time slot originally set aside for the latest installment of "Amazing Race." CBS scheduled the Jerry Bruckheimer reality show for Saturdays before "Amazing Race 5" developed into a summer ratings hit for the network, following four seasons of solid, but unremarkable ratings. In addition to averaging 10.73 million viewers per week during the summer, making it the season's most watched reality offering, "Amazing Race" won its second consecutive Emmy for outstanding reality program. |

This is probably the beginning oof the end for Clubhouse. Its to bad too because its a good show. I was also a fan of the Guardian and was upset when CBS canceled it. Maybe that'll teach a network not to cancel a hit series in the hopes it can do better in a given timeslot. It should have been at least brought back as a backup series.

Think about something though: It'll be the ONLY Original Programming on Saturday Nights. The ONLY (New) Fish in town.
While obviously a Saturday night move will take down numbers somewhat, it's numbers relative to timeslot SHOULD be outstanding...And if it does even remotely well, it just might inspire CBS and/or to fill the rest of Saturday with original programming. |

Not movie, move (Though movies never exactly tear up ratings anyway)
Saturday nights have been ratings anathema since the Early 1990s. Even top-rated shows like Desperate Housewives, in their Saturday night repurposings, can only pull around a 5.0-ish. |

Clubhouse sunk to 7.5 million viewers this Tuesday, down 45% in viewers and 33% in adults from "NCIS." Obviously, with those kind of numbers, the show doesn't deserve the timeslot.

This sucks and CBS can burn in hell. Morons...it was up against BASEBALL. Give it a chance when baseball isn't on.

It may have been up against baseball, but that only marginally effect it's lead-in and lead-out. What's the excuse? The show got a great timeslot to premiere in- Sundays at 8pm, and it bombed. Now it's bombing on Tuesdays. It lost 45% of its lead-in. No other network would accept this. With the surge in ratings for NCIS, why should CBS wait around to see if the show might pick up some steam, which isn't likely when ratings are already so low? Better to give another show a chance- "TAR" is likely to draw in the 4-5 range in adults, double what "Clubhouse" is averaging.
And with the widespread hype that TAR got leading into its finale, and the hype that it will get leading into its premiere, I wouldn't be surprized if it eclipses the 13 million it drew for its finale. Keep in mind- the 9pm timeslot is pretty much wide open. |

Oh and Summers typically have lower viewership anyway. It may not do as well, but when Clubhouse is doing even worse, why not give it a chance? If it doesn't work, move it to another slot. It's not that bad. |

You're thinking of Complete Savages with Mel, not Clubhouse.

Mel is not the producer of Clubhouse, he's the producer of Complete Savages. Besides, all shows deserve a chance to succeed |

From my understanding, Clubhouse isn't a big hit with critics. If a show fails to find an audience and doesn't impress critics, its time to let it go. |
