Captain Scarlet is a well known Spectrum agent dying for a big break and the publicity that goes with it. Yet, when he gets on the trail of his former comrade Captain Black's latest scheme, he gets into more trouble than he expected. By order of the Mysterons, Captian Black has masterminded a scheme from within prison revolving around a powerful invention - the Waddlemeyer Ramrod, but is missing the arming code. Captain Scarlet and his partner Captain Blue foil an attempt to kidnap the only living relatives of the late inventor of the Ramrod, two orphans named Stephanie and David Foxworth.

NOTE: Despite being on the next part, Captain Purple and Doowop Angel do not appear in this part.
The real identites of Captain Scarlet and Captain Blue are revealed as Adam Svenson and Paul Metcalfe.

2. Darkly Dawn the Mysterons (2)

Under Captain Scarlet's care, a pair of orphans end up revealing the ramrod arming code in the form of a lullabye their Grandfather used to sing. But a newly escaped Captain Black lures Specrum out into the opening to both find the Cloudbase and turn Scarlet over to Colonel White. Captain Blue springs him loose and they race to Captain Black's flying base of operations for a final climactic showdown which ends in a shattering explosion around both Captains Black and Scarlet. Later, a bruised and battered Paul Metcalfe (aka Scarlet) arrives at Stephanie and David's orphanage to adopt them.

3. Cry Wolf

Captain Scarlet is off to Australia to save a young boy that has fallen over the side of a cliff and is now trapped on a ledge, his leg broken. By the time Scarlet has landed, however, the boy has made a miraculous recovery and is back on firm ground and he's talking with another boy that just so happens to be outfitted in International Rescue garb. It quickly dawns upon our hero that the boys were merely playing and Scarlet scolds both them and their father for drawing Spectrum away from what could have been a real emergency elsewhere. Who would have guessed that he'd be so uptight, especially since the boys didn't do it on purpose? Just as he seems bound to lose the adoration of fans worldwide with his nasty demeanor, Scarlet reverts back to his usual mellow self and invites the boys to join him in Cloudbase. His plan is to demonstrate how important it is that his team's organization remain free of false alarms and it seems to have worked. Unfortunately, Captian Black has given the Mysterons word of the rescue attempt and, for reasons never quite explained to the viewer, surmises that the weather station where the two boys' father works is just a front for a secret government operation. The villain promptly plots a break-in, but what will happen to the boys when they cross his path? When their visit concludes, the boys apologize for all the trouble they have caused and vow not to let it happen again, which is why Colonel White is understandably upset when another distress signal arrives from the boys shortly afterwards. What the group doesn't realize, however, is that the boys really are in trouble, trapped in a mine in which Captain Scarlet has set off a bomb. Catpain Black is out to get his hands on secret photographs that the two boys' father possesses and detonates the explosive to get them out of the way.

NOTE: Captain Orche does not appear in this episode.
