As I read the various Starsky and Hutch mb's, I get the impression that most women like Hutch more than Starsky. I was curious as to why? Is it that Hutch is more handsome than Starsky? Is it that Hutch is more "romantic" or appears to be more "loving" than Starsky? What is it about Hutch?
Just curious. Signed, Respectfully, Dutch |

I always like Hutch myself, but I loved both characters too. He had a gentlemanly way about him, he was health conscience. He just seemed so sweet. My two complaints about Hutch is his awful car and I'm 6 ft and in one show he had to go undercover and escort a gal to a dance and she was tall and he rolled his eyes and said '6 ft two eyes of blue' or something like that. Now Starsky had a bad boy image I liked.

Hutch was very handsome and sexy and seemed a tad more intelligent than Starsky; I for one never thought that Starsky was that attractive!

Yes, Starsky had more of an edge, definitely.

I agree! I like Hutch's eyes and his voice! I never found Starsky attractive either, he's a cool guy I like him but romantically I like Hutch a lot better.

The truth is that at face value alone without seeing character action or behavior I would say what you claim should be the truth. After all, "Hutch" is the tall, slender, blond blue eyed dreamy looking guy and Starsky is compact, ethnic looking (Italian? Greek? Jewish? Some of all?) he's definitely handsome but it's handsome with an edge. Yet according to what I've read (I wasn't around for the original airing of the show) it was Starsky who was the "break out" character and Paul Michael Glaser who was the "break out" star when the show originally aired. He was the character who people were crazy about. Hutch was considered bland and yet "mean" a lot of the time. That's what it was about Hutch and that's a lot of what I see from "Starsky and Hutch" fans who comment online about the show. My view is that people are really crazy hard on Hutch and think that Starsky is a fun and sweet cherub who is so good that he puts up with "mean" Hutch. lol In fact, and this is a story that endears David Soul to me, when he was first offered the role of Hutch, he read the script and said something like, no thanks, I'd rather play Starsky. He found the role of Hutch lacking while he found Starsky to be a character that was interesting and exciting. The producers said no to that. Even David Soul thought more of Starsky than he did of Hutch, right from the start. That took my breath away the first time I saw Soul say that (in an interview he gave that is in the first season DVDs). Personally, I think Hutch is a character that it takes time to appreciate. Starsky is easier to like right away, because he has this "fun" quality while Hutch is more sedate. |

I think if I were a guy I'd prefer Starsky ! And as I said before I like him , he's cool and funny. I'd like him as a friend. But for me being a woman Hutch is hotter and more sexually appealing!

Hi bonniegirl62.
As I said previously, just to look at them "on paper" Hutch should be the stand out, although oddly I think that in pictures David Soul (during that time period) sometimes does not look so great, depending on his hair length and whether it's windy or it's still. Very weird. But, yeah, as a child I was oblivious to "sexy" but still always ended up preferring the more classically "handsome" characters when it was a group/ 2 or more guys - with the exception being Starsky, whose beauty I saw as a character and whose looks were a bit edgy. Otherwise it's Dukes Of Hazzard, I liked Bo - handsome boy. Bonanza I went for Little Joe - handsome boy. CHIPS - Ponch - handsome boy. Etc. It's a pattern that is 99% steady. As a grown up I went for character more than looks and my preferences changed while I still liked the "handsome" boys. I saw the appeal of Hutch more as an adult for looks, while still being partial to Starsky as a character and seeing his handsomeness. But when it comes to "sexy" I see now how PMG/Starsky oozes it at times really blatantly in a way that I have to wonder if it's on purpose or what, lol. Handsome Hutch kind of leaves me cold, handsome as he is. I like him more as a character now, though. His strength and his maturity and his compassion. |

I see what you mean Katie Ann. With me there isn't really a set pattern on which man I am going to have the crush on more. It's funny because on S&H , I prefer the more serious blonde guy over the more personality, outgoing dark haired more ethnic looking guy. Total opposite with Chips. I am a big Ponch fan. I just LOVE Erik Estrada. Looks and personality. And Jon, the blonde, serious one doesn't do a thing for me. Funny huh? Do you know Chips is on METV now? I've been watching it, and I post on the Chips forum here. For a while other people were too, but not much anymore. Feel free to come over and post. I'd love to get the Chips threads really going!

I haven't seen an episode of CHiPs in years...but when I was a kid Ponch was THE character I loved on that show. I don't even remember the other characters, except when I see the other actors appear on other shows I remember they were on CHiPs.
