Default 10/17 Maybe we didn't lose a million viewers

I can't really tell from the way it's written, they say DOUBLE UP and the lowest "other" number is 13 million, so maybe we got at least 6 1/2 million. That would still be lower than last week and put us at 9 - 8 - 7 - 6 1/2 for the weeks we have been on the air this year.

Here it is from zap2it.com:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Baseball, 'Housewives' Crush Sunday Competition
(Sunday, October 17 11:54 PM)
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Fast National ratings for Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004.

CBS started strong, but faltered late with a dud of a Sunday movie. ABC began the evening flat, but also had the night's most watched show. Still, it was FOX, with a thrilling extra-inning baseball playoff game between the Red Sox and Yankees (and the end of the National League game), that managed to grab first place for Sunday night.

Overall, FOX averaged a 9.0 rating/14 share, though all ratings are based on time period data and can be expected to change dramatically when the final reports are in. CBS was a close second with an 8.7/13, though ABC averaged more viewers to go with an 8.4/13. NBC was well back in fourth with a 6.5/10 and The WB did a 1.9/3 to trail.
Among adults 18-49, though, ABC grabbed the top spot, doing a 5.7 rating in the key demographic, beating FOX's 5.3 rating. CBS was third with a 3.4 rating as NBC stayed fourth with a 3.2 rating. The WB did a 1.3 rating.

CBS won the 7 p.m. hour with the 11.3/19 for "60 Minutes." Second went to FOX, which got an 8.1/14 from the end of the Astros-Cardinals playoff game and a Sunday sports recap show. "Dateline NBC" was third with a 5.1/9, leaving ABC in fourth with "America's Funniest Home Videos." On The WB, "Steve Harvey's Big Time" was fifth.

"Cold Case" did a 10.9/17 to give CBS the 8 p.m. win, though FOX's baseball (9.2/14) and ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" (8.6/13) both easily beat the forensic drama in the key demographics. Each of the top three networks double up NBC's "American Dreams." "Charmed" gave The WB its best hour of the night with a 2.9/4.

At 9 p.m. "Desperate Housewives" continued its early season momentum with a 12.8/18 and the night's highest 18-49 ratings. FOX's baseball was steady with a 9.8/14. On NBC, a stunt episode of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" allowed viewers to choose the ending and did a 7.0/10 in its first half-hour and exploded to an 8.9/13 in its second. Going in the other direction was CBS' Rob Lowe telefilm "Perfect Strangers," which did an 8.8/13 in its first half-hour and then the botton dropped out, leaving it with a 5.5/8 in its second 30 minutes. On The WB, "Jack & Bobby" reached its lowest ratings of the young season.

NBC closed the night in first with the 8.5/13 for "Crossing Jordan." ABC's "Boston Legal" continued its slow decline, doing a 7.6/12. CBS' movie barely registered.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So it might be good news, but it might be bad. I guess next week will tell more.
And I don't want to hear about how crappy baseball is.......plenty of other networks got "numbers" with the baseball game on. And Dateline did another 9 million.

Peace.

-Yesterday's Losers:
Dateline (NBC), Steve Harvey's Big Time (WB), American Dreams (NBC), The CBS Sunday Movie: Perfect Strangers, Jack & Bobby (WB), Boston Legal (ABC)

-Rating Breakdown:
Although game 4 of The Major League Baseball Championship Series led Fox to a nightly victory in the overnights (10.4/15) and total viewers (14.79 million), the home of Desperate Housewives, ABC, remained No. 1 among adults 18-49. Desperate Housewives ranked first for the evening with a 15.5/21 in the overnights, 20.59 million viewers and a 9.4/21 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m. Comparably, this is almost equal to its debut two weeks earlier. Take a look at Desperate Housewives versus NBC's Law & Order: Criminal Intent, which like parent show Law & Order, now has to settle for the leftovers:

Sunday 9 p.m.
Desperate Housewives (ABC)
Overnights: 15.5/21 (#1), Viewers: 20.59 million (#1), A18-49: 9.4/21 (#1)

Law & Order: Criminal Intent (NBC)
Overnights: 9.5/13 (#3), Viewers: 11.53 million (#3), A18-49: 4.0/ 9 (#3)

Note: Total viewers and adults 18-49 are based on the fast affiliate ratings.

Although Desperate Housewives lead-in Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (#3: 9.7/14; Viewers: #2, 15.05 million; A18-49: #1, 6.5/16) remains solid, lead-out Boston Legal is anything but. Take a look at Boston Legal versus NBC's competing Crossing Jordan with percent change from their lead-ins.

Sunday 10 p.m.
Crossing Jordan (NBC)
Overnights: 9.4/15 (#2), Viewers: 12.54 million (#2), A18-49: 4.6/11 (#3t)

-Percent Change Out of Law & Order: Criminal Intent
Overnights: - 1, Viewers: + 9, Adults 18-49: +15

-----

Boston Legal (ABC)
Overnights: 8.5/12 (#3), Viewers: 11.60 million (#3), A18-49: 4.6/11 (#3t)

-Percent Change Out of Desperate Housewives
Overnights: -45, Viewers: -44, Adults 18-49: -51

Earlier in the evening, CBS' combination of an NFL Football overrun (14.0/23; A18-49: 6.7/20) and the first half of 60 Minutes (11.9/18; A18-49: 4.1/12) won the 7 p.m. hour, followed by baseball on Fox (9.7/16; A18-49: 4.5/13), NBC's Dateline (5.8/ 9; A18-49: 1.8/ 5), America's Funniest Home Videos on ABC (5.0/ 7; A18-49: 2.5/ 7), and Steve Harvey's Big Time on the WB (1.9/ 3; A18-49: 0.8/ 2). 60 Minutes from 7:30-8:30 p.m. averaged a 12.6/19 in the overnights.

At 8 p.m., NBC's American Dreams remains more a nightmare than a dream with a distant fourth-place finish in the overnights (5.1/ 7), viewers (6.28 million) and adults 18-49 (2.1/ 5). Better received was CBS hit Cold Case, with an 11.8/16 in the overnights (#2), 14.16 million viewers (#3) and a 3.4/ 8 among adults 18-49 (#3) from 8:30-9:30 p.m. Over at the WB, Charmed is losing steam with a 4.2/ 6 in the overnights 19 percent below the comparable year-ago night (5.2/ 8 on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003).

As bad as the WB's Tarzan was last fall in the Sunday 9 p.m. hour, a series-low 2.0/ 3 for Jack & Bobby in the overnights at 9 p.m. (with a 0.9/ 2 among adults 18-49) could end up the lowest rated show of the week. Although the WB has boldly renewed the series for the remainder of the season, something tells me it will cut back on the episode order.

Also in the loser's circle last night was CBS made-for, Perfect Strangers, at a 5.7/ 8 in the overnights, 7.48 million viewers and a 2.0/ 5 among adults 18-49 in primetime

I see in the article you have put up it says:

This doesn't make me feel good at all. That means we went from 9 million to 8 million to 7 million to almost 6 million viewers since we got on air. And the 18-49 group I read about here being where we are strong seems not to be the case.........shoot.

What are we going to do? Jeff Zucker is on our side........I hope as strong as ever. We need him.

Peace.

I guess I should state my opinion that being "for" one thing does not mean you are against another. Seems like baseball is gettting blamed now for our demise at AD.
But alot of people at my school seem thrilled about the Yankee/Boston series right now.

I just read at "Sarah the trivia Hound's" post that we only have 13 episodes ordered.......then in Nov. the network will order the other 9. I get this paranoic (is that a word?) feeling that the network waits to see how Nov. sweeps do before they commit. Please tell me I'm wrong. I see previews for a few FOX network shows premiering in Nov. Maybe they do this for their attempts at numbers during sweeps.
.....and it scares me that these previews look like pretty good shows.

I'm not going to bad mouth FOX because I'm an AD fan. I don't think that is right.
What is good is good, what is bad is bad.

Viewers seem to like baseball.....at least right now. That's why they tune into it.........I guess.

I still think we would do better being a "WB" show. Our numbers are great for WB style shows. I think NBC might expect higher numbers and that is what scares me.
For example, if I didn't misread something I saw, "Arrested Development" is coming out on FOX at 8:30 on Sunday nights. People seem to like it........not good news for us.

Peace.

Was not talking to or about any individual poster......you included Storywriter.

I was merely pointing out that sometimes posters here blame baseball.

I was trying to focus them on supporting AD instead of being against baseball. We need to focus, we are losing about a million viewers a week and that is not good news for us who love the show.

Peace.
