I'm a little confused here.
Now in my humble opinion, both the Lakers and the Yankees basically had/has the same way of doing business, going out and getting the best players for their team, that the owners money can buy. And here is where my confusion comes in, last year everyone hated the Lakers because they had, supposedly a stacked team of players, but don't the Yanks have the same thing going?? I mean George went out and got players he wanted to improve his chances of winning, and not one person said a thing, but the Lakers do it and they are the most hated team in professional sports. Someone please explain the difference and why the Yanks are praised for this while the Lakers are booed.

I wouldn't say the Yankess are given a free pass by the media and sports fans becasue of thier hiring policies. Many teams (including the one they're playing right now) have often complained that the Yanks have an advantage because they have a bigger bankroll to aquire top players.

I don't hate the Yankees team. It's George Steinbrenner I don't care for. I think he's greedy. If the Yankees win the World Series and he adds Carlos Beltran and a few more of the big-name free agents to the roster, it'll be a sham. It's like whatever he wants, he gets.

I was never a fan of the Yankees, either. I think a lot of people hate them but you have to keep in mind that the Lakers had Shaquille O'Neal, Karl Malone, and other big players that were well known in the media. Also Kobe Bryant's rape accusation and charge (later dropped) also adds to this. Basketball is probably full of more public trash-talkers than baseball. |
