Chris is not a mean. He's good for Meg. Everyone says that he's bad but he isn't. Meg started him on all the anti-war stuff not the other way around. Also Chris really cares about her which is more than I can say about her family and Roxanne.

I know family that Meg's family cares for her they (her parents) just her to be not be in trouble with law and safe. In 1965 being so outspoken about being against the war would likely be dangerous though not being beat up or anything like that but would have probably been kicked out of school sooner and maybe for good not to mention being arrested.
