Default Should the plug been pulled after Dolph Sweet passed away???

I personally think so because it got away from the original premise of the show of a housekeeper for a widower with three girls. Without the widower and with Nell and the girls to me the show did not pull off well. There was a huge hole in the show after he passed away. The interaction between him and Nell was great and provided some excellent comedy.

I think the show could've continued if it concentrated on Nell. When the girls grew up and left they could've given Nell a new life on her own. They should've just wrote Joey Lawrence out. Small child additions destroy every show!

Default what i didn't understand...

was why Simpson became chief of police after Chief died. This guy was the dumbest person on the show,so i fail to see how people can go "you know simpson is so dumb, and the chief just died. what should we do? i know. let's make Simpson chief". hmmm. lol. it's the same principle behind Screech from Saved By The Bell being Assistant Principal of their school, and Maxwell Smart from Get Smart being Chief Of Control in the 90's version of the show, where Andy Dick played his son. I mean what the heck?

Nell 'grew-up' too matured through the sitcom. So, there are many possibilities, but there were many funny episodes after the chief passed. The addition of so many new cast killed it for me, but I enjoyed the dialog between Nell and Addy in NY.

I think they should have cancelled the show when the father died. He was my favorite character.

Why Cancel it
It wasnt his show to begin with
"Gimme A Break starring Nell Carter"
They did cancel 8 Simple Rules when John Ritter died

What were the ratings for this show in the years after Dolph Sweet died? I say that they shouldn't have gone past year 5. The last season is life a spinoff.

It still had its funny moments after Dolph Sweet died, but the addition of Joey Lawrence was a train wreck.

Default cancelled???

Hey Gang...

IMHO, there's NO way it should have been cancelled after Dolph's passing...I would like to have seen Nell have more to do with her career in many ways, get to see Addy at her work and things like that to give us more, but alas it didn't happen much...

Oh well...still an AWESOME show!!!

Blessings...
