Lucy Tidbits
PTA leaders in Lynn, Massachusetts picketed their local CBS affiliate, demanding that "I Love Lucy" be broadcast earlier in the evening so schoolchildren could get to bed at a reasonable hour. In 1953, more people watched "I Love Lucy" on the occasion of little Ricky's birth than watched the inaugaration of Dwight D. Eisenhower, or the coronation of Queen Elizabeth five months later. "I Love Lucy" won more than 200 awards, including 5 Emmys (it was nominated 23 times) and the coveted George Foster Peabody Award for "recognition of distinguished achievement in television." The Ricardos were supposed to be called Lucy and Larry Lopez and portray themselves as a Hollywood star and a successful orchestra leader. During the live filming of "The Ballet," Lucy accidentally caught her foot in the ballet practice bar, but ad-libbed so brilliantly that no one ever knew. In choosing the occupation for Lucy and Ethel in "Job Switching," Bob Carroll Jr. and Madelyn Davis simply looked in the yellow pages. The episode is one of Lucille Ball's personal favorites. Ethel had three different middle names? Ethel Roberta in the episode where they bottle Aunt Martha's Old Fashioned Salad Dressing, ("Come, Ethel Roberta") Ethel Louise when the girls bought the same dress for the "Friendship" number ("Why Ethel Louise Mertz") and Ethel Mae when they went to Albuquerque ("Ethel Mae Potter, They never forgot her"!) Lucy's first had her hair dyed her trademark carrot-pink color in 1942's "DuBarry was A Lady" which she starred in. Responsible for the for it was Sydney Guilaroff, senior hair stylist, who insisted on brightening her locks for the Technicolor extravaganza. Lucy tried out for the part of Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone With the Wind". Lucy won "Best Dressed" in Hollywood. For "Lucy Fakes Illness" Episode #16 Lucy talked to Tallulah Bankhead to ask her permission to mimic her. After Lucy and Desi purchased RKO, Lucy took Ginger Roger's dressing room. It was Ginger's room when Lucy was merely an RKO contract player. Lucy redecorated, and the room was done in yellow and white (her favorite colors.) When Elvis Presley was on tour in the 1954, he always enjoyed watching "I Love Lucy." In every "I Love Lucy" episode Lucy wore a butterfly clip in her hair that she got from her Grandma. If the clip did not fit with the costume, she would wear it on a piece of clothing or on her handbag. Nick At Night erroneously refers to the "Christmas Episode" as one which Desi Arnaz didn't like and that's why it's not included in syndication. Not true... Desi did not want the Christmas episode included in syndication because it would look foolish for the episode to be shown at different times during the year and not just at Christmas. Vivian Vance was only one year older than Lucille Ball. Part of her contract was that she had to stay at least twenty pounds overweight so she would look much older than Lucy. Desi Arnaz, the youngest of the main charaters, was six years younger than Lucille Ball! The lyrics for I Love Lucy's theme song were only sung on the show once! If the geography of I Love Lucy was correct, the Ricardos and the Mertzs would live in the middle of the East River! I Love Lucy was never ranked below 3rd in any of its six seasons. I Love Lucy was canceled when it was #1 in ratings. There was only one other show that ever did that. It was the Andy Griffith Show. Lucille Ball was on the very first TV Guide! Since then, she has been on more TV Guides than anyone! "Little Ricky" was born on TV the same night that the real Desi Arnaz, Jr. was born. (January 19, 1953). The Grape fight at the wine vat in the wine-stomping wasn't even originally in the script. When Lucy's leg got stuck in the bar during the ballerina episode, it was an accident; Lucille Ball just played it up. 7 out of 10 people with televisions watched the Birth of Little Ricky when it first aired! Over 1 billion people in the world today have seen I Love Lucy. . The cast died in the order of their casting call: Fred, Ethel, Ricky and Lucy. The car used on the famous "California Here I Come" Episode #110 was a 1955 Pontiac convertible. |

Lucy's Face has been seen more times than any other human being in the world.
Little Lucie appeared in the last episode of I Love Lucy the Ricardo's dedicate a statue, Desi jr. Never appeared in an episode of I Love Lucy, both made appearences in numerous the Lucy Shows. [sorry I have just been informed it was the otherway aroundOCT13, 2004] Shows that use laugh tracks often used recorded i Love Lucy auience backgrounds. Originally in Lucy does a Tv Commercial, Lucy imitated Johnny the bell boy calling for Phillip Morris, the scene was cut and edited. If you look closely in this episode when Ricky introduces his Tv show Lucy is smoking in the background and you can see the Ricardo's living room set. |

Reverse that, Jen. Lucie never appeared in an episode of I Love Lucy, she herself confirmed it several times. However, Desi Jr. did....he was the one that Vivian asked if he was having a good time.
