Default They Screwed with Star Wars AGAIN!!!

Okay, first off, I DO like the 1997 re-issues of Star Wars with all of the extra crap. But for the 2004 DVD release, they screwed it up in my opinion.

You may not notice this screw-up until you get to the Return of the Jed DVDi.

I will issue a spoiler, so if you have not seen the movies, do not read what I will post below:

Here is the spoiler:

Remember when Luke takes the mask off of Darth Vader, and we see a bloated, fat, bald guy who looks incredibly ill? Do you remember when they show the ghosts of all of the good Jedi's?

Well, they replaced the older Anakin Skywalker with Hayden Christiansen in the movie.

Now I ask you, why did they replace the other guy who was standing there in all of the other versions with Hayden Christiansen and not replace the old Obi Wan with the younger Obi Wan. This to me is a failed attempt to try and link the classic Star Wars movies with the new Star Wars prequels. In fact, when Luke looks at the ghosts, Anikin looks way younger than Luke now and Luke is supposed to be Anikan's son.. It just doesn't feel right.

I agree with you. I don't like the inclusion of Hayden Christensen in "Jedi."
George Lucas wants viewers to see all six movies as one continuous series. That's fine with younger fans who are just got into the Star Wars Saga with Episodes 1-3. But older fans are getting tired of having eps 4-6 tinkered with so continuity can be preserved.

Oh, I know.

I have the original Star Wars boxed set. I bought it after I saw the first Star Wars movie in the theater (for the first time) in 1997.

Then, I bought the boxed set in which they added the special effects.

Now, with the changes in this one, it' makes you want to resort to a DVD burn.

I mean, the sound and picture are great, but that change just doesn't fit I think. It seems like it's another way to have another version of the same movies as well.

The reason is because Anakin died when he was young, and was brought back to life as Darth Vader. The old man under the mask technically wasn't Anakin, he was Darth Vader. The true Anakin died years ago.

When a Jedi becomes one with the force, they assume form they had when they died. Anakin died when he was a young man, so the ghost looks like the young Anakin. Obi-wan and Yoda died when they were old, so their ghosts look old.

Thats George Lucas's explanation anyway

They should be viewed....
4,5,6,1,2,3

Because, if you watch 1-3 before 4 and 5.... the entire "I am your father" part is destroyed.
That's what MADE the series.

I didn't like seeing the altered Vader either. However, I knew that change was being made, so I wasn't surprised when I saw it. I think Mr. Lucas is strong with the dark side of the force.

what i dont understand is why they dont let you CHOOSE which version you wanna watch on the dvd, the couple of scenes changed for continuity arent THAT long, wouldn't be toomuch work to add them on there...

I have the original VHS version of the "Star Wars Trilogy" without the extra scenes. These are just original movies not the special editions. I might get it on DVD soon. The DVD does not include "The Making of Star Wars" originally taken from Magnetic Video a long time ago will be included on this DVD.

Yeah, I have all the originals on VHS too. When "Return Of The Jedi" came out on VHS, I paid 80 bucks for it. Some people thought I was nuts, but my brother borrowed it and took it to back to college with him, and they were lining up to watch it in his dorm room.
One weekend I visited him at school, and there were twenty people crammed in his room watching it. My brother proclaimed "This is my brother, he owns the tape, so treat him well."

Maybe I'm in a minority here but I really like the changes made in the Star Wars DVD set.

I thought the inclusion of Hayden Christensen at the end of ROTJ was a great addition. I think Lucas did it to tie in with I, II & III.

I also like the added footage and addition of some CGI effects in the original trilogy. While I am not a fan of CGI I believe that this makes the original trilogy more "compatible" with I, II & III.

I'm an oldster here. I saw the original trilogy in a theater when I was a kid. Yes, when they were first released. No, I am not that "nostalgic" to miss the originals

I'll take the "new and improved" versions over crappy audio and matt lines any day.

I know and I agree: Maybe George should have released the trilogy with both the originals and the "new and improved" I know many Star Wars "purists" who complain about the new versions. But then again, these people would find something else to complain about even if the trilogy were released with both versionsIMO

It's a matter of preference I guess

I'll take the new versions myself! They tie in better with I & II IMHO

I can't wait until III comes out on DVD- can't wait to watch all 6 in order!!
