Ok has anyone noticed there are some episodes that copy ILL(I love lucy)?, or use the same type plot. I used to be the biggest fan of ILL and now that i watch three's company..sometimes its like, "whoah! where have i heard this before?" for one, The one where its Chrissys bday (The Gift) and she thinks the coat belongs to her sorta is like the one on ILL where it belongs to someone for Ricky's show, not Lucy. Baby, Its Cold Inside is sorta like The Freezer from ILL. Handcuffed is a lot alike! Home Movies is sorta, just a little like the one where Lucy and Ethel make their own homemovie of the western..just a little though. The Kleptomaniac is a lot like the one where they think Lucy is one. When I looked through the book I found many others that did but these were the most obvious, I think. Does anyone else agree? -Leslie

It pushed everything to the limit.. in a GREAT WAY!!! |

And here's another connection- at a wrap party in I think.......1978, one of the producers told Suzanne she was the new Lucille Ball. But then two years later they were calling each other four letter words...

There was a flashback episode of Three's Company that was hosted by Lucille Ball herself. She talked about how much she liked Three's Company.

Oh yea..I just remembered this. There was a Lucy Desi Comedy hour where she was trying to get into a hammock and she couldn't get on and John Ritter did the same type thing on A Camping We Will Go trying to get into the hammock. -Leslie

I agree. "Three's Company" is like "I Love Lucy" in comedy wise and that is why Lucille Ball probably liked "Three's Company" so much.

Three's Company and I Love Lucy are similar in the way that both shows rely on zany and physical comedy.
I think Three's Company and Frasier are even more similar in format. A lot of the humor in these shows is based on misunderstandings and mixups. One character will overhear another character say something-- misinterpret it, and the show revolves around the misinformation. I Love Lucy had this element too, but it was more prevelant in Three's Company and Frasier. Three classic, terrific shows. |

OMG, I've always thought that. Yes, similarities major!
I always thought the reason was because I Love Lucy conqured many frontiers in the sitcom world and was the first-timer for many things that became a model for later sitcoms. I've seen the handcuff thing done on Full House and Lizzie McGuire (which is a Disney Channel orig. series sitcom that airs every weekend) But still I was surprised by how many plot lines are similar......but of course that's a good thing since I love Three's Company and I Love Lucy. |
