Default Has anyone ever noticed Robert Reed's face..

...during the early opening credits. He may have been just acting, but he would look at Cindy and Bobby, then shake his head like he was angry or something. Anyone else ever notice it.

I noticed that during the marathon! Everyone else smiles and for a few seconds he looks agitated.

He does that facial expression as if to say, "All these kids!"

I always wondered why they actually put that footage of him in the opening credits. Very strange.

Barry Williams said that the opening sequence was filmed every season on the paramount sound stage with the cast sitting on stools and being told where to look and smile. Maybe someone off camera said something that Reed thought was stupid.

...or maybe he heard a gunshot, or saw a UFO or something.

No. He was just acting the part, probably taking direction to do the facial expression that way.

I've never noticed that really. But maybe he was just looking at the two littlest Brady kids like "You'd better behave or else since I am your new Dad, I'll whoop your butts" kind of thing?

His face looks strange because the whole sequence was not edited well, or at least it didn't work well in the final cut. Today, they could just redo it, but back then the editing technology would have made it a lot more expensive for all the work, probably. The fancy graphics was probably a major project for them at the time.

Also, they may have put so much work into the opening, that they didn't even care about a minor flaw. They may have thought, Well, this show's never going to make it anyway, so what's the point of redoing so much work?

There are minor flaws in movies and television all the time. Directing flaws that just don't work well in the execution or final cut. We just don't notice them as much as this one because we don't watch them over and over like we watch the Bradys.

Yeah, I've always noticed that, even when I was a kid. Didn't think much of it back then. I thought it was just him being him, and that's comedy. It looked as if Bobby or Cindy did something wrong to him. It wasn't until many years later, after hearing about Reed's manner behind the scenes, always wanting things perfect, that I began to take notice.

However, during the later years (the perm years), he stopped doing it.

...also, wasn't Cindy the cutest little morsel back then, when it first came on?

Yes, I have noticed that for a long time now! I always wondered why he did that. Well, I know he wasn't too fond of doing the show at first but it's kind of stupid he did that in the opening credits!

Susan Olsen gets my vote for cutest TV kid ever, during the first season or two. Her line delivery was priceless. Remember:

"Keeping them together sure is gonna be hard work!" (during "Dear Libby", when the kids were talking about being on good behavior too keep the parents together).

"Forgettin's easy! It's rememberin' that's hard!" (when the kids were trying to help Alice forget about missing her date with Sam to the Meat Cutters' Ball)

"Oh, please, mister!" (to the checkered trading stamps guy to let them in the store after hours.)

"I fell out the other side!" (to Alice, when the kids were all crowding into the station wagon for the camping trip)
