As you probably know, last month was the 25th anniversary of hip-hop's first big hit "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang. It was originally sampled as the song "Good Times" by Chic. I used to have the record of that when I was a kid. If you like to see the history of rap's first record "Rapper's Delight", go to this site here. Here is a picture of hip-hop's first hit.

I like Rapper's Delight song also. Big Bank Hank who was in Sugarhill Gang had his lyrics written by Grandmaster Caz of Cold Crush Brothers & Grandmaster Caz said he was never paid by Big Bank Hank for writing his lyrics. There's a rap documentary out right now called Beef 2 that talks about rappers beefin with each other. Grandmaster Caz dissed Big Bank Hank on the documentary saying f**k Hank. I don't like it when a rapper doesn't write their own lyrics. How are u gonna be a rapper & u don't write your own rhymes? Def Squad which consists of Redman, Erick Sermon, Keith Murray did a remake of Rapper's Delight song 6 yrs ago on their El Nino cd. Did ya'll know that rap music started in the mid 70's? I didn't know that. I always thought Kurtis Blow was the first rapper cause i grew up on rap in the early 80's. DJ Kool Herc is the one who started rap music. He's from Bronx, New York. First rap records i ever got when i was a kid was Run DMC's King Of Rock album & Whodini's Back In Black album. Both of those albums are classics. I miss the old days of rap music in the 80's cause rappers weren't cursin back then & rappers weren't gettin killed. The songs were fun back then. Now rap music is about violence now & rappers disliking each other. Remember LL Cool J's I Can't Live Without My Radio, Rock The Bells, Dear Yvette, I'm Bad songs? I miss those days. UTFO's Roxanne Roxanne song, Fat Boys, Beastie Boys first album, Eric B & Rakim, EPMD, Slick Rick & Doug E Fresh's The Show & La Di Da Di songs, Krush Groove movie, Breakin movies, Beat Street movie, Afrika Bambattaa's Planet Rock song. That's when hip hop was all about fun & breakdancers breakdancin on a cardboard with the boombox & spraying graffiti on the wall. Those were the good old days.
