Default The title of this show should have been called the....

"The Evans Family" instead of Good Times, especially since we rarely saw Good Times on the show, just problems-lol

Wink

Maybe even "BAD TIMES", considering it seemed like the whole Evans family was jinxed.

Speaking of, does anyone know if there was another article other than the 1975 issue of Ebony that caused John Amos to be fired or was that it? I've read that one, titled "Bad Times on the Good Times Set"(courtesy of finding it on Ebay) and it doesn't seem THAT controversial. Just wondering.

I don;t know of another article. I have the 1975 article-Bad Times on the Good Times Set. In that article it was mainly Esther Rolle expressing her feelings about the J.J character. Amos said nothing in that article so it must be another article out there

Good points! Perhaps they should have just added punctuation as in ' Good Times?!'

I once thought too that the title should have been the, "Evans Family" and the Jeffersons should have been called. "Movin' On Up"

odd...i was going to start a thread saying the same thing.
WHERE WERE THEIR GOOD TIMES?

what do you think the creators meant by giving the show this title? i always thought it meant that you may not have money, you may not have a job and things could be at the worst, but aw lawdy, thank you for the GOOD TIMES.

if anyone can, name some of their truly GOOD TIMES. i mean, thru a whole episode...not just when things seem promising, they get all excited, they get crushed, that smile it off and hug. NOT THAT. a FULL good time that started and ended positively.

Rent Party was a good time. Let me think of the other seasons and see if I can come up with any others.

Point blank, they should have just called it : The Evans

like a broke down version of: The Jeffersons

it's polar opposite.

That's why i always wished there was a crossover between the Jeffersons and Good Times, because they were the complete opposite of one another.

I think it was named good times just because no matter how horrible things were they still stuck it out and made a good life for the kids.

I think it is a perfect name cause some of the best "good times" in my life was watching good times

I think there was a lot of irony in the title and a touch of sarcasm. The Evans were always sarcastic about the way the government ran things.

I agree with this probably being the reason. The Evans would've been too bland a title for this show.

The show was better to be called Good Times instead of The Evans simply because the theme song was so darn catchy. Imagine a theme song with The Evans. No thanks...

Also, is there anyone out there willing to share that article that is being referred to? I'm not sure how long it is so it may be too weildy to type out, but perhaps someone who has the article could type out the interview in parts. I'm just curious to see what was said...

Cool

I have the 1975 Ebony mag it's from- found it on Ebay. The Cover article shows the Evans Family with the caption "Bad Times on the Good Times Set". I'll post it as a New Topic So Everyone Can Read if Interested.
