Hey Honeymooners fans-
According to the original press release from the U. of Georgia's Peabody film archive, MPI in association with Gleason Enterprises, will be releasing the newly found "Love Letter" for home video release. So, I'm trying to spread the word - that now is a great time to get MPI to release what additional "lost episodes" & footage they have on the newly planned DVD release. Please, if you wish, use any or all of the following info as the body of your e-mail: (If you know of anything I missed, please let me know.) (See below for links to MPI) Episodes hopfully included on this new DVD release are: “Manager of the Baseball Team” (6/1/57) (length 10:36). Note: The 5/9/53 episode is on DVD volume 10 & is on VHS vol 10. The 6/1/57 episode was supposed to be on VHS vol 28. It is promoted as the 6/1/57 episode, but it is the 5/9/53. In fact on some sites the 6/1/57 episode is promoted as being on DVD volume 10 as well - but that is incorrect. The reason “Honeymooners” fans would love to see MPI release this 6/1/57 episode on DVD is because it is the very last Gleason, Carney, Meadows, Randolph episode. There is also another episode titled “Halloween Party for the Boss” dated 10/30/54 that is on VHS volume 26, but was never released on any of the DVD volumes. Note: this should not to be confused with the episode “Halloween Party” dated 10/31/53, that is on DVD volume 8. According to 1986 book, “The Honeymooners Lost Episdes” by Donna McCrohan and Peter Crescenti, the following 7 episodes are listed as “still lost” but as you can see, 2 of them were found, aired on “The Honeymmoners 35th Anniversary Special” in 1987 and then released by MPI. They are: "The Turkey" 9/27/52 (listed as still lost) “Lost Baby” 10/11/52 (aired on “Honeymmoners 35th Anniversary” & released by MPI on DVD) “Quiz Show” 10/18/52 (aired on “Honeymmoners 35th Anniversary” & released by MPI on DVD) "Question Mark" 10/25/52 (listed as still lost) "Missing Pants" 12/6/52 (listed as still lost) "Easter Hats" 4/4/53 (listed as still lost) "Alice's Birthday" 5/16/53 (listed as still lost) NOTE: Because 2 episodes were “found”, you can see why we would be asking MPI for any of the 5 additional lost episodes listed above. The word was that the 5 episodes were actually “found” but were not released due to poor quality. The buzz was that they were going to be worked on for possible release in the future. We could only hope!! There are also 3 additional “lost episodes” that were found and aired on 3 “Best of Gleason” specials in the late 80’s & early 90’s. These 3 episodes were never listed in the book as a part of the MPI library. They are: “The New Bowling Ball” 9/20/52 (aired on “Best of Gleason 2” in 1989 on FOX, never released on DVD) “6 Months To Live” 10/4/52 (aired on “Best of Gleason 3” in 1989 on FOX, never released on DVD) “Sprained Thumb” 11/15/52 (aired on “Best of Gleason 1” in 1988 on FOX, never released on DVD). "Spraind Thumb" can be found on the VHS release "The Great Gleason" - this VHS is produced by MPI. Note: So if MPI owns the rights to "Sprained Thumb", perhaps they have the others as well. Lastly, according to the book, MPI also has footage of 2 other episodes, this would make awesome bonus material: “Honeymooners Christmas Party” 12/52 (The book states 1 reel found – MPI may release) (Not to be confused with the 12/19/53 version that is on DVD vol 3) “The Fortune Teller” (The book states 1/2 show available – MPI may release) NOTE: On "The Great Gleason" VHS they show 4 different scenes from the "Honeymooners Christmas Party". From the footage I have seen it does not look like the 1953 version. So hopfully they can include the footage they have on the future release. MPI Links page: http://www.mpimedia.com/contact.htm (On the above link there are 10 contact links, I sent an e-mail to each of them today.) And an additional link to send to: .....customerservice@mpimedia.com........ PLEASE Honeymooners fans, take the time to make the case that we'd like to have whats available. THIS IS THE PERFECT TIME FOR THIS!!!! Take care, Chris |
