Default Jimmie Walker, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs

I've posted this topic on the Welcome Back, Kotter board, and I'm going to post it here. Anybody thinks Jimmie Walker would have made a good sweathog and Lawrence Hiton-Jacobs would have made a good J.J.? At least the J.J. character would have probably been toned down.

JJ as a sweathog, I do not think so; he was way too goofy, and the Sweathogs already had a goofball in their gang and that was Arnold; and for Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs as JJ, no, he was way too smooth, handsome, and cool to portray such a silly character.

I dont know Tara, J.J did act pretty cool around Poppo, Cool Breeze, and Head-LOL Honestly, i think J.J and his buddies were no different from Freddie, Vinny and Esptein. Both were cool aside from ******** Arnold.

So you are saying that JJ acted like a complete dork, when he was in his father presence, but vice versa when he was around his friends?

YUP-lol Take the episode-Windfall, J.J's personality was completely different when he was in the hallway talking to his friends. Also when he started working as a gambler with his old highschool friends he was laid back and cool. Actually he was cool around Michael too. He just seemed to be silly around thelma and his parents-lol

I could never understand why he acted like a complete goofball around his father; you would except JJ to be at his best behavior when James was around, and especially how stern he was towards his eldest child...

JJ was definitely not as smooth nor attractive. Lawrence's character was supposed to be a true mack and player. JJ's character was a wanna bee mack that was a complete fool. I don't think they could have made the switch.

Also, Lawrence's claim to fame was that 5 ft afro. Did you take a look at the buckshots on Jimmy Walker when that stupid cap was removed? NO way that is turning into an afro. And then when JJ got that man perm after he was working at the ad agency or whatever....what the hell?

each played the character they were supposed to play. i mean, did JJ even HAVE white friends? come on..........

OMG the buckshot comment was funny!!!!

J.J. as a Sweathog, no way.

LHJ as J.J. could have worked. LHJ is a better actor, and I think the writers would have had to give the actors better scripts. I think John Amos would have lasted, because it would not have a clown like Jimmie Walker, who was a stand up comedian, and was used to getting laughs. But with LHJ there would have been a more acting to the role of J.J. instead of going for the laughs.

JMO!!!!
