Default Please HELP if you can: recording error msg:

I'm getting the following error when I try to copy a dvd that I have recorded in my Phillips dvdr80 recorder: "Logical block address out of range"

I also have a dvd+r that I recorded last night and finalized the disc...today, I put the dvd in the recorder and I get another message "unknown data"

Anybody had this problem before? I've check out the dvdrhelp site and no luck.

I'm downloading a firmware upgrade to see if that helps. If anybody has experienced this problem...please let me know how you fixed it.

Thanks!
Sharon

I'd suggest going to the DVD Recorder Forum at www.dvdplusrw.org, there are some very in-the-know people there and Philips machines are the primary topic of discussion.

Hi sharon:

I used have the philips dvdr75 stand alone unit.
I didnt encounter that error.

Could be bad media. Or not compatible with that recorder.

Have you cleaned it recently?

If your internal is giving you those errors. Could be a software issue.

Sounds like your re living my nightmare .

thanks, you all, for the suggestions!

I'll check out that dvdplusrw forum and see if I can get some answers there.

Hey Christina!

Yep, this is a nightmare! I have no idea of when it began...I'm hoping it is just a media problem, though. Of course, that would be the easiest "fix"...except for the $100.00 worth of blank media I have! Actually, I did find a post on dvdrhelp where someone mentioned that Philips dvd recorders are not compatible with 4x media. I think it is specific to my model...but, not sure. I'm gonna try some slower stuff and see if that makes a difference. Who knows..???

Anyway, glad to see you are up and running again

oh, I haven't cleaned it recently either...I should probably try that, too.

Thanks for your inputs!!

Do you have a DVDROM or DVD±RW writer on your PC? I'd see if the disc could play on my PC and if it is readable, I'd use Nero to rip an image of the disc to the harddrive and burn that image onto a new DVDR disc using my DVD±RW drive.

Hello TVJedi,

I do have a TDK dvd burner that will read/burn the dvd; however, when I tried to make a copy with Nero, it reads it all of the way to the end and then I get the "block address out of logical range" error. I have the "full" version of Nero, as well as Roxio, and I get that same message both times. However, yes, the dvd will play just fine for viewing (as far as I know, I haven't watched it all of the way through). But, when I put the same dvd back in the Philips dvd recorder it was created in, I get an "unknown data" error and the recorder wants to eject the disc.

I have tried other things to burn a copy, I have tried dvdclone, I have tried copying the files to my harddrive and then using Roxio classic to create a disc. I have tried dvdXcopy, all have come up with errors - except dvdclone and that one screwed up the menu - it just added it to the rest of the dvd and it played through like it was the beginning of the movies. (these are home movies I'm trying to transfer to dvd).

So, I'm going to try cleaning the recorder with a dvd cleaner and using different media. Maybe that will help?? I'm stumped, otherwise...

Thanks for your advice

Sharon

Sharon, I have another idea. Even though this is a home video DVD, try the software called DVDDecrypter to rip it. If it can get a good lock on the files it will rip them off as VOB files. You could then burn them as DVD-video format in Nero. It sounds like the original disc media was a bad burn, so your DVD recorder is having a tough time reading it. DVD±RW drives in PCs are much more forgiving. You could possibly see if a friend with a different DVD±RW drive has better luck with the disc.

Default Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

I think I've figured it out and it is definitely something to do with trying to record on TDK 4x media. I don't know if it is the brand, bad discs in general, or the fact that it is 4x. I've found some info that philips recorders are unable to record properly on 4x media. So, here is what I think will work so I don't burn coasters out of the 70+ dvds I have left...

I found a Philips dvd+rw dvd that records at 1x and am recording on that. The disc had some stuff that I had previously recorded to it and I copied it to one of the TDK dvds and it burned beautifully - no problem with the TDK dvd! My dvd recorder "erased" the disc and I'm transferring tapes to this dvd. I'll keep you posted if this corrects the problem - just incase someone else encounters my problem - it may help them;o)

It will obviously take a lot longer to accomplish transferring tapes, so, I'll keep you all posted and if it works, I'll order some philips dvd+r's to finish up transferring.

TVJedi: Thanks for your latest suggestion - I'll try it if I do not have success with my current process;o)
